I got mine two days ago. I works as intended. I don't know how the original promotional video used the record in user mode to get drum rack driven loops in user mode.

Also

I thought for sure there'd be a utility app or something other then just drivers... something for the user modes 1&2... i might be missing something... somewhere.

I think 'User 2' is reserved for M4L functions. 'User 1' outputs MIDI notes - been having fun here with sequencing beats using that mode.

I am also not getting any of the 'redraw' issues other people mention when switching modes.

Pretty impressed overall thus far, and it just amazes me we haven't had an affordable and available session view controller of this type before now!

User 2 is not reserved for Max for Live.

It is the mode Ableton recommends to use with Max for Live, but you can map anything in Live to the pads in User 2 mode

re: the o.p.'s music: i like it! great stuff.

re: my day (5) launchpad impressions: i like it a lot, but am actually a bit letdown by the limited amount of customization allowed. i assumed the implementation for midi assignments would be launchpad-specific, and not just bog standard midi learn. e.g. when overriding a column in 'user 1' to be a volume fader, it doesn't work because live isn't reading it as a column, just as midi notes. unless they release a launchpad mode editor, it looks like we'll be stuck with max for live for decent customization and led feedback.

this is inaccurate.

In User 1 and User 2 modes, you can map a line or a column of pads (of any size: from 2 to 8 pads) to any parameter
- enter midi map mode
- select the parameter you want to map
- press the "starting pad" (the lowest one if you want a volume fader)
- maintain it pressed, then press "the top pad"
- exit midi map mode

as said, this works horizontally and vertically, from 2 to eight pads.

Suggestions: crossfader, cue level, dry/wet knobs,...

only in user 2. if you don't believe me, map a column in user 1 to volume and tell me how well it works.
