Yep, I'm on SP3 and experiencing the same stuff. I'm thinking Moronsoft rigged it to not run certain things. I've had problems with my cell phone software not running in SP3 but runs fine on my Vista laptop.
Ableton really needs to get this working for those of us who might want to actually buy it one day. Without being absolutely certain it is working I would not give them one dime, I am surprised that they have the nerve to actually release it in this condition.

Well, last night I couldn't get 8.1 to run on my machine. getting CRC error on install. Makes me think I have some bad RAM in there. Doing some testing over the next few days. Will let you all know if that is the problem ( have not had RAM fail since my apple 2e).

I also have this on both the beta & the release version, i have a crash log from the beta that i sent/ will send.

When I want to load a max instrument or effect I have no graphic interface for the instrument, when I want to open the edit interface of max for this instrument Max crash and when I want to relaunch Max, It propose to purshase Max.

My config :

macbookpro unibody 2,8 ghz 4go ddr
mac os 10.6.2
live 8.1

i had xp sp2, then got sp3. crashed with both.

Did repair install of XP, fixed a few other issues I was having. Everything else checked out OK., but no relief on the Max for live front. Still crashes after the splash screen. Only today the beta won't run at all, its expired.

OK. So maybe it`s not related to SP3? I`m not buying M4L before we know the reason why it`s not working....

I'm on mac os 10.6.2, Yesterday it crash at startup, Today I formatted my drive and it work fine.
I'm not sure but I think that the problem come from Suitcase Fusion (font manager), so maybe a font problem because in MAXMSP I couldn't see any text (maybe the font use for MaxMSP not present in my system)
If I know exactly the problem I will tell you. But if you want to use M4L today format your harddrive and it should be work.

before i go ahead and format i'm just wondering if by "crash at startup" you mean, live crashed when you dragged a max device onto a track.

Before I format, Live crashed, Max for Live crashed, Max MSP crashed.
Today I test max for live sounds, I test create sounds, all sofware work great, none crash

Which of you here bought Max for Live and do have problems
with loading a Max device from the device browser in Live.
Do you get a splash screen, crash?

My question is
Have you used a Max trial for 30 days in the past.
and you didn't buy it?

In other words, did you let the max trial expire?
