Yep DJTT.

Is something special going on in Houston with a user group? I really want to see it jump off locally, however I've never been to an "Ableton" user group, it would be nice to visit different ones and see how the establish themselves. It would be good notes for Dallas.

So what's up Dallas?

Anyone gonna take the lead and say let's meet at blah blah blah on this date???

I was hoping someone with some user group experience would step up to the plate.

Working on trying to find a spot in houston to meet. What time of the day would people like for this to go down?
Ableton’s engineers are hard
at work developing code that will allow our software to predict the future, but we don’t
anticipate having this available until at least the next major release.

I would love to get down with a Houston group. I am in the Clear Lake - Webster area and something on the weekend once a month would be nice.

Once again I'm so down for Dallas, just hoping someone with more experience with user groups is willing to step up and book a date.

^We had a nice following for a bit while doing Laptop Deathmatches. Unfortunately, it fizzled out. Mainly because audiences in Dallas don't generally appreciate cool music. I've lived here for a eight years now, and I couldn't tell you where to go to listen to good music in town. I suspect Fort Worth is better, but then there might not be a crowd for laptop performances. I know for a fact that Austin or Houston have much cooler audiences who appreciate music a lot more.

In any case, if I had the time, I'd start a user group, but I can almost guarantee that ultimately, we would fizzle out for lack of a caring audience. Sorry to be pessimistic, but that's what I've experienced. If someone else wants to start it, I'm happy to come to meetings and see where it goes. But I won't keep my hopes up.

just do it..

i started it in austin about 2 years ago
a user group meeting is as simple as posting on the web
when and where then be their..

i created a reverbnation account for the user group which will give you an e-mail list and e-mail collectors that you can then put all over the net..
building an e-mail list is key..

also check out our web site on .ning

http://abletonatx.ning.com/

i could possible convert that to a texas site too..
that may be cool...
so instead of having a bunch of barely active sites we could have 1 active..
i'll look into it.

with the web frame work built people can find you when
google for ableton information in your town..

the meetings can be as simple as a coffee shop
show up with your laptop
work on music and if people show up
help them with questions or what ever.. just go with the flow
if no one shows up then you got a good hour or 2 of music done :)
i did that every week for a while..

look for a good home
a place that you can have a workshop once a month
some thing like a community center or some ones house the key is free.

you don't even really need a projector when its small
most people will bring their laptops and you can just walk around or sit next to each other..

contact ableton they seem to love the user groups.. hell its free promo for them..
they will post the info on their site..
also drop fliers and any place that sells ableton..
the sales people will promote the group because it will help them
make a sale.

it really doesn't take much work but it can very easily consume you.
the trick is to find the balance

another thing that is very nice is to find a monthly performance oriented spot that can be ableton themed.. but their is no need to be strict..
i have vinyl DJ's that are resident to my monthly events..
i've had hardware electronic bands too
its all good
i think what where the hookah night has worked is that its a very small and chill spot.. 20 people in their feels like a good crowd 50 people would pack the house hehe..
so something like that to start with is best i think..

now i'm moving to what i think the next logical step is
and that is forming some kind of leadership structure
and creating some bigger events that will generate some sort of income
so we can provide for our workshops better.
this part is taking time but that is to be expected
i need to find the right people to help...

ya its self sacrifice but you do stand to learn more about ableton
and its a great opportunity to network and promote.

seriously, just do it.. it is fun, it can be a headache, but it is worth it.
and if it fails o well.. either try again or move on..
