My thoughts exactly. It is beyond belief that both ref and linesman missed it though. Something needs to give, it's an impossible game to referee these days.

Still hurting the morning after eh :( . Aren't they using extra linesmen on the goallines in the UEFA cup this year? So that goal wouldn't have stood in that competition but it does in the world cup. It's just incredibly dumb, even by FIFA standards.

bad luck.
i dont believe in a conspiracy, watched it again and it was lame handplay and blind referees.

Have to say I'm really happy with the introduction of video refs in big rugby games, ok, it breaks up the game a little, but you halve the number of dodgy decisions...

+1 for video technology in football.

Incidents like last night, there is a natural break in play anyway, so it wouldn't slow the game down.

There is a thing called Karma, bet you any money either he gets injured before the world cup, or France go out in the first round after 3 losses.

Sorry for the Irish and surprised at Thierry Henry, I thought he was a better man than this.

At least he didn't claim God intervened and admitted responsibility and their coach Raymond Domenech was almost embarrassed by the whole thing and said he felt sorry for Ireland. But in a few month's time it will all be forgotten and no-one will care anymore, unfortunately - Robbie Keane and Richard Dunne are right though, FIFA will be loving it, Michel Platini and Sepp Blatter got the result they wanted ... Henry looked like he was playing basketball, so the linesmen is as culpable as Henry.

Although it also has to be said that for years, a fair contingent of Irish fans showed up at Ireland - England matches wearing Argentina shirts and laughed about Maradona's 'Hand Of God' vs England at the 1986 World Cup (or plenty of anonymous muppets goading on web forums about it). I guess that now you understand what it feels like to be cheated by a dirty cheat. Even if France disown Henry at the finals, and don't play him out of disgrace, it's academic now for Ireland.

Henry has done so much for charity (esp. for Africa and anti-racism) and for the game, has been captain of club teams - I understand why he did it, but it is still shame on him. I will end by saying Ireland have been robbed here and I do feel for them, I'm part Irish myself and they deserved better. If Karma exists, they'll get their reward down the line when they maybe don't deserve it as much.

Was not aware of the Irish fan in Argentine shirts thing! Thats not cool! However..... the hand of god goal was terrible, cheating, shouldnt have been allowed, but what England fans never mention is that Maradonna scored one of the best if not the best goal in WC history a few minutes after that! Point being the Hand of God did not decide the result in that match. England were 2nd best in that match, Ireland were the better side last night

Never understood the argument that it would slow the game down, it doesn't effect anything in Rugby and Tennis, expect in Rugby when the ref keeps going to the video, but play has already stopped anyway.

But Football badly needs the tennis challenge system, watch how quickly players stop diving and actually play the game.
