Ok guys...you've given me some great ideas.

How about this! Watching the Willits video gave me more ideas. It looks like an all purpose audio processor is the new Ultra-Lite MK3 Hybrid (audio, midi, lots of ins and outs). I'm using a PC but I can see the possibility of a Mac in my future. Willits uses a Pocket Fader to control MIDI volumes of different tracks. He uses the FCB1010 to select tracks and I suppose that I could use it to control the looper (learning the programming will be a future task).

So my guitar chain will be Variax into Pod XT live into the MOTU Ultra-Light into the computer through USB. It appears that there are mic inputs into the Ultra-Light.

If I get a keyboard controller like the SL-MKII that would go straight to out to the laptop through USB. I can edit through the controller. I guess I can set it up to do what the Pocket Fader does (control individual volumes).

Anyone know which USB hubs work?

Can FCB1010 plug into any of the midi ins?

What do you guys think about this? Gulp, this could be expensive.

avoid the hubs, but get a powered one if you do, and or make sure you are not powering anything from the hub in general.

FCB can plug into any midi in as long as it ends up in the ultralite

YES.

That has been a bit of a thorn for me. I just want something simple to start/stop Looper. The choices out there all seem excessive.

In the meantime, I've mapped Looper's big ole play/record/stop button to the 0 (zero) on my number pad. Since you're using a laptop that might not be the best place but most single keys are free. Just check Live's keyboard shortcuts in the manual to confirm.

I dunno if this (Logidy UMI3) is out yet, but it looked nice and simple. http://www.macmusic.org/news/view.php/lang/en/id/8654/
