By exclusively does that mean no other vsts or no other DAWs? I've been seriously considering getting maschine for many months and watching the various updates and complaints on the forum. The problem is that find it hard to justify having maschine when you have ableton. The only difference I can see is hands on control. I can only really see maschine slowing down workflow. If I could get a brilliant controller for drumrack and impulse that's all I'd really want. Is there anything machine can offer me apart from more hands on action? I need convincing that it is totally worth it really.

Has he tried to sell it yet? If he hasn't then this needs to be marked as MUST BUY.Tone Deft wrote:john gordon has a maschine. hmmmm...

I think it's right up your alley, there's a template for drumracks but really you should check natives tutorials on youtube to see how useful it could be, it's definitely not redundant because of live, they make a greattttttt combination maybe the best if you need to work on a computer.Acid303 wrote:By exclusively does that mean no other vsts or no other DAWs? Well then I would have no way of firing my live clips or controlling anything in Live at all. Unless I used Maschine for triggering live clips, but then I wouldn't be able to trigger maschine clips or mute/solo maschine parts or use the maschine knob controls.starving student wrote:it sounds like you've got alot going on, btw Ni owes you for it's live userbase catching on,glitchrock-buddha wrote:Maschine and Live are the essence of my live setup. But I could not go with just the Maschine hardware as a controller. I use the Maschine hardware to control Drums in the Maschine plug-in, APC40 to control Live's mixer functions/clips/selected device parameters, and Kore controller for send effect parameters. Then I also have the BCR2000 for control of various things for the Master 8 tracks or the main 8 drum tracks (sub tracks of one of the main tracks). This isn't necessay, but I like to have some drum channels with instant access to sends and volumes or effects and quick access to levels, filter or effects of the main 8 bus tracks.
forgive me I'm not adept at using many controllers at once, how much would your sets suffer if you used only maschine and live?
My philosophy is that I NEED simultaneous access to drum ounds coming in and out, drum patterns, and controls, as well as Mixer faders, clips, sends and at least one set of selected device parameters. And on top of that I want simultaneous access to send controls like delay filter, feedback and other send effect parameters. Hence Maschine, APC40, Kore Kontroller. To me those are essential and not really a complicated set up. The other I like to have is something dedicated to firing one shots from one of my tracks (like from a drum rack of effects and big splashes/hits). For this I have a nanokey. The BCR I was going to sell after I got the APC40, but then I thought, for the 80 bucks I might have gotten for it, I might as well keep it for master track controls, like an extended mixing desk. I do each live track as a group of 8 tracks . 1 drum track, 1 track for one-shots, 6 instruments. The drum track is composed of 8 subtracks as multi-outs from maschine, but I keep them grouped.
To me, simpler won't mean less frustration. I want to be able to access as much as possible without losing the instant mappings.

I agree and have been meaning to see if it's posted in the feature requests. Will check and post if it's not there.am wrote:no apc/launchpad here.
my only gripe is that it would be great to be able to switch to 'native mode' with one hand... instead of the Shift+Control.. which is just out of reach for a one-hander.

gone but not forgotten.kind of missing it.
Re: Does anybody here Use Maschine and Live Exclusively ?
does maschine have memory to hold templates or can you only use one template at a time, does it have 16 that you can switch through at any time while playing so one for maschine, then switch to control a plugin synth, then switch to control live fx, then switch to control live clips?

The Maschine controller iteself can't store any information as essentially it's a MIDI controller. Everything is done throught the software. When you change the template (eg from Maschine to Ableton control) this works via the 'Controller' program.o0o wrote:does maschine have memory to hold templates or can you only use one template at a time, does it have 16 that you can switch through at any time while playing so one for maschine, then switch to control a plugin synth, then switch to control live fx, then switch to control live clips?
Re: Does anybody here Use Maschine and Live Exclusively ?
but how many templates can you have and switch between during a performance?

Well, because the templates are stored on your computer, essentially you can have as many as you want, and just toggle between them all. The template design side of Maschine is something I would really like to get into, but at this stage it is too far beyond me in terms of programming skills. I'd love to know a good website/tutorial series on MIDI control mapping so I could start using it. The pre-made templates are great, but of course I'd love to be able to start customising them for myself.

I played a few gigs with Maschine and Ableton alone and it went quite well and was way more fun then i expected. The only problem is that you need to switch 2 buttons to change from Maschine mode to Ableton mode and this is getting more confusing with every beer but still its possible and fun. The key is to make your own customised template and only the sky is the limit

let me rephrase, how many templates can you use on the fly by switching between them?

I think its 10 templates that are stored inside maschine, and that should be more then enough, because they all have a lot of pages that you can customize. Its also great that you can name each parameter, like lets say one knob is mapped to the cutoff of your 303 plugin, then just name it "Cutoff 303". I really like that on stage.
