cures for hiccups

I know this sounds disgusting (and if you're not careful it will be) but the only sure way I have to release the pressure is to stick my fingers down my throat to release the gas - the trick is to stop before you "follow through"

Honestly it always works but sounds dreadful and its not the sort of thing that goes down well in company...

That's pretty much the same thing I do except I drink out of a cup of water backwards while bending over like that. It honestly works every time.

Sitting down, take a sugar packet and dump it into the palm of your hand. Then, put your open mouth over it *(holding your breath while you do this) and tilt your head back , getting all the sugar into your mouth. Then swallow it while standing up keeping your head tilted back, putting your hands in the air.

My understanding of the reason these things may work is that they tend to get you concentrating on controlling the muscles that are involved... but, regardless of which technique you use, be sure to sample your hiccups before getting rid of them.
