Oh, gee... I'm so sorry, I should have written "amber", shouldn't I? What's the fucking difference, TD? The fact of the
matter is that I can't tell from looking at the pads alone which of a track's clips is actually playing. On the picture on
the Launchpad's box, I see three discrete colours - red, green and yellow. When I actually start up Live and start using it in
Session mode, I see two colours: red and ... whatever.

So what is it you're trying to contribute here? Except cheap sarcasm, that is.

what the hell?

I spent time checking the colors for you, you didn't know there was an amber and a yellow. I've done more to help you than others have. I know what you're saying, I know the answer, good luck figuring it out, you're not worth my time.

Chillax, show some love.
Is it possible to mod the launchpad to some other colour that you might be able to see the difference?

You can't fly planes either!

Shit man, he's colour blind, and you wonder why he couldn't tell there is a yellow and an amber.

It' be nice if you could change the colors around but I don't think these company think about colorblindness.

no sarcasm intended, but assholes like you and the OP go off on me. I was trying to help the guy, now both of you are jumping down my throat. try helping someone, sometimes you make a mistake.

it was just a logical question. he couldn't tell yellow from green but had never seen a yellow LED. re-read his post replacing 'yellow' with 'amber.' it didn't make any sense but you wouldn't know that if you knew the Launch Pad's LEDs.

well, as he's colour blind, he can't determine the difference between yellow and amber, maybe? :)

he just knows a playing clip and a non-playing clip should look different, but don't, for him. and you bashed him randomly because he named the colour wrong.

and yes, i call it yellow and green, too. and no, it doesn't matter. and no, you where of no help for him at all.

to the OP. maybe somehow you could interfer the midi-out of live to change the colours of green f.e. to red. if you don't plan to use the launchpad for recording clips, that would help nicely. maybe try out boomes midi translator, or how ever that's called.

Hey, thanks for the replies guys. (Outershpongolia: Aeroplanes? I'd easily settle for just operating the Launchpad :D ) It would indeed be nice if the users could
tailor the LED colour feedback to their own needs.

davepermen: I was hoping to use the Launchpad both for recording and launching, so I guess I'd still be out of luck. Ah, well, I'm sure I'll get lots of fun out of this
little puppy once I get used to it.

For the record, here's what I'm looking at (not necessarily the way I'm seeing it, but anyway):

Session:
Image
(Clip 2, track 1 playing, clip 3, track 3 recording; I can only tell the red one from the others).

Mixer:
Image
(I have no problems whatsoever seeing three different colours).

Now, without speculating on the actual names of the colours, I really wish the colours you can see on pads 1-4 on "scene 1", "scene 2" and the red ones on the bottom,
all on the mixer page, were the three colours that differentiated "slot contains a clip" from "recording" and "playing" on the session page.

Oh, the joy! My father asked me how my present was working out, and I gave him a little demo, also
describing my colour related problem, and he tells me there are (as far as I can remember, at least)
two more nuances on the mixer page that I couldn't see. I really hope Novation releases a simple
app which lets the user customise the way the LP interacts with Live, so that I could pick three
colours/hues that I can easily tell apart for "stopped clip", "playing clip" and "recording clip".
Should be doable, shouldn't it?

well, one thing you could is, set a midi out and try out different velocities that you send to a button to cycle trough all colours. then you would need to write some mapping in bome, or something, to translate the outgoing messages.

and yeah, you should contact novation about this. they sure should at least know the problem exists.

I use an APC 40 to DJ, and I recently got a Launchpad.
I don't think the Launchpad is very good for use by DJs, but it has some really cool applications when used in a live performance.
Also, Max4Live allows all of the Monome's applications to be used on the Launchpad, which basically turns it into a cheaper lighter, and multicolored Monome.
You definitely need to spend some time figuring out how to use it specifically for your style of musical production and performance.
Good luck! :D

Colorblind too.
The problem is with the session view. A low green for playing clip would be nice, or something flashing. I personnaly can only tell the difference between red, low green, and.. the others are the same color.
My tongue spits english like a frog and my head is currently searching for a comprehensive language.
And I shit here

Well, I'm not really using Automap as such, I'm just using my Nocturn as a regular MIDI controller,
and - for this purpose, at least - Automap Server is gold. You can easily change CC values, etc.
on the fly, as opposed to some of my other controllers, where I have to exit Live in order to
reprogram the controller. Novation's controllers only communicate with Automap server - not directly
with your applications. I was hoping that Automap Pro could give me even further control options,
but I haven't heard anything from Novation yet... :?

Does anyone have experience with Novation's customer support? Good/bad, quick/slow?
