you can see how I interfaced with the LP here:
http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php? ... 0#p1043880

it's a LP step sequencer in progress. at least you can see how to interface with the LP and take that code apart to make your own stuff. I tried to keep the code pretty open. I haven't tweaked on this project for a few weeks.

That was interesting. I am trying to use max and not max for live to avoid loading a patch in each set.
But it seems that only m4l can access to the surface control.

I've made this with monome for a few years : I made my 64 kit wit 2 colors. Then I custuomized my 128. Before this, I made a MIDI launcher with 8 colors (but no leds). I am playing live intensely, and it is absolutely obvious that alternated colors help A LOT to structure the visual representation of the session view.
I'll try to make it with le LP, but in a software way. No idea how easy it will be. I'll keep you informed, as I am still a kind of max noob. But my idea is that max is the way to go rather than m4l, because it is more simple to have an application in the bacgkground instead of loading it in each set. I also hope this can be done without max, just editing the remote script, although I am completely ignorant about this.
Im considering building my own trigger unit with multi color leds. If its all midi over usb, is it possible to get clip color feedback with the help of max?

I would also like to do with my apc what you are planning to do with your Launchpad. Looking at 40 (8x5) buttons of the same color does not tell me much! And I use 16 channels, and about 120 clips. So either I get one more APC, or 2 Launchpads, or hopefully a 16x clip trigger ableton device will turn up at NAMM. What about your Monome, cant you use it the same way as a Launchpad? The 128 has enough space to cower my session view. :)

samtastic wrote:hey guys,
stumbled across this when searching for info on USB hubs...

ive got two LPs (i bought one to team up with a VCM600 and i won one in a writing comp - cool, hey?). I only got the second one recently, so im not yet using it to its fullest (and im still on Live 7, no Max4L).

They do pop up as two separate control surfaces, each with their own coloured boxes (which it seems you cant change the colour of.. mine are pink & purple).

Im planning to use one to launch audio clips (which is what i've been doing), and the second one for midi clips and some drum work.

when i get Live 8 (its in the post) i would be v interested in your Max patch if you get it going (regarding the lights representing the colours on screen)... i can see how this would be a lot more useful when playing live : )'

cheers
the colour is dependant on where in the control surface list you have the controlers set up. if you change possition in preferences it should change the colour.

For now, I am stuck with this LP thing. I am getting crazy with max (I am a noob for years) and I am not even sure that I don't have to do it in m4l with the API.

What do you mean by multicolor leds ? RGB leds are different leds of different colors ?

The monome is perfect for this (check out griotspeak's clip launcher for instance). In fact, I am using it live for about two years. But it is priceless and, as I am touring a lot, I'd prefer to replace it with two cheaps LP.

yes, m4L would have better integration into Live but since you've seen how the monome works you'll be fine. make a midi clip with a single note in it and send the track's output to the LP. change the velocity of the note and the colors will change. there's also that Programmer's Reference Guide which I think I've linked to before (too lazy to find it now, ask and I'll post.)

Yeah I made tests in max to see how the lights work.
I've also made tests to see the chains of midi messages are sent for the lights. I got some difficulties to deal with the three messages (it's not a list, so I don't know how to split them in max), and I don't really conceptualize values greater than 127.
I am in Paris for the week end, so I got no LP and no max. I may contact you monday if you don't mind.

of course.

I mostly bought the LP to tweak with m4L, turns out the thing is AMAZING as a controller itself, added bonus.

I def want one!

chapelier, I don't really know. I don't have experience with leds, maybe Tone can answer this?
Apparently there are tons of different leds. but lets say I use a 3 color one, that's connected to a midi type DIY box. Will it be possible to program the lights to reflect certain colors from Lives clips with Max? I might be asking the wrong guys here.

I am almost sure it's doable. Ask Julienb I think he would be able to help you.
But creating a midi controler with RGB leds is definitely not an easy task.

@samtastic:
Since you've got two LP, could you please check if they creat two distinct MIDI ports, for instance launchpad1 and launchpad2 ?

This is very important for me. If it does, I'd be certain that the way I am programming will work with 2 launchpads.

Thanks !

Im not 100% on this, but I think they will show up as 2 different control surfaces. It can be up to 6. In that regard, they should have their own midi ports.
