There's a great video of that guy steve whats his chops from microsoft LAUGHING at the propsed $500 iphone a few years ago before it's launch.
Smugley announcing Microsofts phones would be the consumers phone of choice.

I dunno what it is about Microsoft but i just love seeing them fall flat on their face everytime.
Everything about them seems to try so hard to be "cool" but they manage to fail miserabley... every time.
(The xbox excluded).

I really hope whatever Apple announces pisses all over their offering.

Rant done. :D

as ballmer told in the engadget show (since which i think he's a real cool guy btw, live he's great), who cares? they fall flat by having 95% market share, or 20x as much as apple. why should they really care? :)

Market share off what at 95%? If you mean OS it's closer to 90, maybe less now..
is that market share falling or rising?

If an investor would you see microsoft a good bet for future investments?

The two things that annoy me the most:

Internet explorer - utter piss.

Windows - overcomplicated and bloated.

By the way i use PC's more than i use macs.

Their market share is p[retty much a legacy thing.
That 90% market share will drop dramatically over the next 10 years, unless they wake up and sort out their products.
They always just seem to be playing catch up with everyone else. I would love to see a company of that size and with their reach do something that truly changes the game - but i just can't see it happening.

Here's a couple articles that have gotten a lot of attention.

David Carr is bullish on the tablet/reader
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/04/busin ... technology

Slate's Jack Shafer is more skeptical about the impact.

Seems to me that the battery usage of a large LCD would be a huge hurdle.

i guess a lot of people would just buy it because they want to be cool and afterwards have about no use for it. it's too big to have it always with you like the iphone or ipod, and it (till now) has no real use.

They better care - thats changing fast. I work in a large Financial Services org and Googles making inroads and MacBookPros popping up everywhere in dev departments....executives are getting iPhones and wanting to use them for work as well...I'm really surprised how much traction Apple is starting to make in the Enterprise world...didn't think it would happen but I'm psyched. Will be working on a MBP with 250GB SSD in a week or two.

yeah, if they grow that fast as before, then they sure will be at 10% in the next some years..

which still means nothing.

still have fun with your MBP and the ssd. sad, it's most likely a samsung ssd, which don't really deliver the snappiness like other ssds do (intel f.e.). it'll still be a great experience. about the same as my systems since over a year..

Seriously, which one would you choose; a tablet PC or a tablet Mac? If I were to buy a tablet computer, Apple would be the only way to go. HP just isn't sexy enough.
