Oh well, cool. Makes me wanna play Street Fighter on an old arcade monitor.
Too bad I'd spend that much money on a Lemur. Or a Prophet 08. Or anything else.

there is nothing like it... hence... it's not overpriced...and it looks like quality materials ...hand built...
I think only the hardware costs about half... the rest .. construction...
1800$ is a lot of money(well out of my range)... but.. this has the aesthetic of an instrument ..
and real quality instruments are usually expensive (not talking about vsts..)
That's a valid perspective. But the limited edition aspect does place it squarely in collectible boutique-land. And, as anyone knows, that can justify some pretty pricey items.

It's usually wrong thinking that the hardware doesn't cost that much. For small numbers of parts (say, printed circuit boards) it can get pretty pricey. Custom parts, buttons, metal cut cases...they can cost quite a lot. Think how much does it cost to get a Monome and how much a Novation Launchpad goes for on Thomann.de ...

that's it... only when there's a 'big' production line and bulk purchasing..
...they can cut the costs..and make it more affordable..
I remember watching an interview with Dave Smith where he talks about the evolver's production costs..
and how he's trying to keep the price down by printing loads of circuit boards..

I don't think Moldover is wanting to sell many of these...
... he built/designed it for himself...
and so it would make sense to make a bit more $ making some of these sexy units...
seeing the hardest parts of production have already been done(design/prototype/test)///

I say kudos to him... looks like a very expressive, intuitive and customizable device..
maybe next year we'll see a plastic model by novation/korg ...

All in all, I'd have to agree.

Whatever happened to Sasha's Maven? I was looking forward to it being put into limited production some day...

Looks like it might have morphed into the Korg Zero 4 & 8 line of DJ mixer/MIDI controllers.

I've actually been thinking of building an arcade controller that I could double up as a midi controller...

this looks like a pretty easy system and affordable...

...these things look real stirdy.... there's also cool trackballs...
and some of the boards allow encoders...
one thing that remains to be checked is if I could somehow get led feedback on those backlit buttons...

exactly! or any of the elektron machines or anything on analogue haven! not sure why anyone would knock something just because it was "boutique". not sure about the faders, ribbons, trackballs, SEALED USB cable and cost of custom metal cutting and circuit board but most the buttons cost at least $2-3 a piece so all that is not just adding up to $400. After putting together how many different FREE shows for electronic musicians to play i highly doubt that Moldover is in this to rip people off. I'm not saying he doesn't want to make some money, he just wants other musicians to be able to rock out too! 8)

i could go buy a cheap-o chinese or mexican made fender for a few hundred and have to replace everything on it in six months or i could buy a hand built "boutique guitar. bottom line, you get what you pay for.
