I teach basic beginner guitar, drums and keyboard (to about grade 3 level Trinity Guildhall Rock School). I see between 65-70 people a week, 2/3rds in groups of two at a local school and the rest 1 on 1 at my home based studio. I have a waiting list and have had one for 2 years straight. This year I am expanding to included lessons based on GarageBand and Acid Express. I trailed this last year with good success. I also recored 3 EP style albums for clients that were a direct result of my lessons. I expect to do at least that or more this year. I am a New Zealand trained Boat Builder with Advanced Trade Cert (pre NZQA). The economy ruined my boat building business, but music teaching is booming. Due to a recent change by the current government in the level at which you have to charge and collect GST, this year I am expanding my business. Its aaallllllllll goood.

I teach freshman music courses in sight singing and ear training and work in an audio preservation studio at my university, all the while working on a PhD in music theory. I had a third assistantship up until this semester and I just had a room mate move out so I'm having to tighten the belt quite a bit at the moment. But I've been very fortunate to get the jobs I have while being in grad school. I'm hoping that I can time my graduation around when those old guard professors will finally be able to retire. Mostly I'm just happy I've chosen a career where I will always be exposed to and involved with all kinds of music.

permanent position with uncle sam, so things are stable for me, although I did recently transfer from CA due to the economy effecting many of the projects I was working on (projects were funded by CA state bond money and that all got frozen)

I compose music for dance companies and accompany dance classes for a living. I've also started teaching electronic music. The economy has made it harder, but I'm doing ok.
