I knew that there was something shallow and profane lurking beneath all of that eye candy

I thought Avatar was great, I reaffirmed my belief that as a "White Man" I can save the world. Any world.
Also that I am pretty much superior in every way to all indigenous peoples, and I can master their whole culture in a matter of weeks and then become their beloved king and sex up the old kings prized daughter. We ROCK !!!
I also found it re-assuring that alien cultures conform to a 1970s Californian middle-class hippy idea of the Noble Savage. Honest, in touch with the plants, but a bit stupid.
If I was a Native American I'm sure this film would leave me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside, or perhaps, like blowing shit up.

Yes.
It's been downhill pretty much since A Man Called Horse, hasn't it?
Like I've said before, a better ending would have been the Navi gently brushing the blue eyed white boy aside with a 'thanks, but no thanks' gesture, then connecting with the planet to unleash holy hell on the humans.
But, seeing as this was a film created by and for overeducated pompous white liberal douchebags, that was sadly not the case.

It takes a special kind of moron to go to this movie and expect to be anything more than it was and then complain about it.
It's like going to a gay club and complaining about the lack of jazz fusion music.
but +1 for "I hate things that are successful and popular" posts on the net. There really isn't enough.

Actually, I've loved all of Cameron's previous films. I was expecting greatness here as well and should have gotten that. Moron or not.

can I just say that I have a special switch that de-couples my frontal lobes, so I was able to enjoy it while in the cinema.
But afterwards(when I flipped the switch back) I realised I'd been enjoying californi-porn. The makers of this movie go to $5000 a night tantric-yoga retreats to learn from chi master Crystala Rainbobrite about how they are all ascended Reiki masters.
Then I felt dirty.

Even Titanic? I think that movie gets an undeserved amount of hate. Sure it's a chick flick but it's also an epic story with plenty of eye candy. I don't think Titanic would have worked without the chick flick aspect because you wouldn't give a shit about anybody on the ship and it would have just been an easily forgettable ship wreck movie.
So Avatar is the third in the Dancing With Wolves and Pocahontas trifecta. I think it's the best. Christ, how much time is spent by people on this forum writing music styles that have already been done to death with little originality.
