Joking aside I use twitter pretty effectively for other stuff like keeping in contact with people, getting info form people that interest me. It can be like a very tailored RSS feed that seems easier to manage.
I've arranged meet-ups with it before for like minded groups of people and I am one of those people that likes to 'share' progress and information so it enables me to do that pretty effectively.
