well I tried this, using input from a mic into my Motu and then routed into an audio track and then that routed into a loop recording track. I didn't get any pops when activating the clips to record, either with my problematic video driver enabled or with it disabled. Tried it with about 8 tracks or so, long clips and short, with different warping. Now, I did note some warping artifacts here and there that were 'crackle like' but not at the clip record start.
