chapelier fou wrote:So, zalo, I just had a try. This quite good actually, except :

-I can hear a kind of glitch when hiting stop
-I'd like values in ms instead of beats
-I'd like a "tapeplay", like switching between stop and play, with also a slow up effect, and different values for up and down.

Anyway, that's a good starting point and I'll try to cusomize it.

Thank you very much !
yeah, i spent some time trying to figure out that glitch, it doesnt happen everytime for me (it does a lot though) but this was definitely one of the kinks i was talking about

i originally had it is ms, but i switched it to beats because i like it that way, i was going to make an option like, beats or time but i was tired and the script for stuff like that i havent delved into, its a simple change to make in the plugin

and for the tapeplay, i thought about this, the only problem is that i am doing this with live audio, and for you to spin up and sync back up you would need a way to know what is coming in for the next few seconds, to get this function we would need to figure out how to get max to break some basic laws of physics

TapeStop v0.2

beats or time

still glitchy sometimes, it definitely comes from the record~, buffer~, groove~ combo, but cant figure how to stop it

I took the original and added in the option that whilst the button is held down it won't play any sound after the tape stop until the button is released...

Gonna look at version two now!

About that "physical stuff" : I guess I know what you mean, zalo, but I am sure you are wrong. Let me try to explain, although it would be better with a kind of drawing.
If you put an increasing line for the "tapeplay" effect, the maximum value of 1 will be reached at the very end of the sample, so it means that your [groove] will never have to read in the future. But I admit it shouln't be so easy to program.
The free "tapestop" vst (for windows) has a "up" parameter so it proves it is possible. I'd really hope to sort it out, but I am quite a noob, and got soooo much things to do these days !

I am exploring the tapin~ and tapout~ . These may be a more elegant solution, although I don't understand everything.

no i am not wrong

think of it this way, for a 1 second roll down you only need .5 second of material, since the material is playing at a slower speed it lasts longer

that means after a second we are listening to something that happened a half second in the past

now flip that around

to make it so after the 1 second roll up we are synced back up to what is playing we need to start .5 seconds in the future

also, when i originally tried to make a tapestop effect 4 months ago i started with tapin/tapout and it creates a graininess and doesnt sound right

the record/buffer/groove is the best sounding method, that i have found

i also got rid of the audio glitch with my version, i am just waiting to add a couple more touches before i release my final version

i didn't want to offend you, I don't care who is right or wrong. I'll try to work on it, at least it will make me learn some things.

Awesome, for my liking ive added a delay @quantize 16n after the toggle thats connected to the tape stop button....

Now for my next challenge.......

If i want to press and release the button before the whole tapestop has been applied i want the tapestop to stop and reset itself so i can quickly fire it again....

Currently i've got set up with some gain objects and effective audio switch so that as soon as i press the tape stop takes the audio and when i let go it bypasses it, trouble is when i quickly press it a number of times the tapestop is still stopping and it doesn't sound as i'd like it too, i almost want a tapestop that only plays when i press it for as long as i press it and then it goes back to normal as soon as i release it.... What do you reckon (i'll be honest you've added some objects in there which i haven't got the first clue what they do, i've spent all my time learning the basics and the live objects without really dabbling in anything past some mathematical functions)

Cheers

download my latest version

in the center there is a message (1.) connect the input of it to the output of the switch after the toggle

this will reset it to normal every time you release

you might need to lower the speed limit before the switch if this gives you some trouble

Right fiddled to my hearts content and this is a wicked effect for a turntable stop, next challenge, i want to be able to apply more of a brake effect as in banging the start stop button on a technics rather than turning the rocker switch.... When i turn the effect down to small ms of length the effect has a delay before it kicks in.... I literally want to bang it in on a beat and have it grind to a halt virtually instantly.....
