I messed with the autofilters a bit, created a rack of ten, deactivated the rack and then started duplicating them all the while a drum machine was playing on the track.

I watched the CPU meter as I added the racks with the clip view open... it started to creep up a bit at a time. Closing the clip view still showed some increase from the original point.

Related to this, I think Live's CPU meter is ambiguous, but maybe I don't understand it. I thought it was supposed to indicate only how much CPU Live's audio engine was using per se?

Yeah I"m wondering if it is Live's CPU meter ONLY or it's the whole computer.

I just did the test with VST and AU. Not 1000 of them, just 10 or 20 in an Instrument Rack.
When I switch my VST off one by one, I can see my CPU decrease.
So I guess VST are using CPU and RAM while ON, even if they're not selected in the Instrument Rack.
And that is a reaaaaaaaaal shame.

Don't you know if there is a way to make Live swich the unselected VST off automatically ?
