Right On Guys!!!!
I was actually happy to see a political thread, as if LIFE existed outside of Ableton... damn right!
Since we don't have any guest, it is quit normal that people -in the community- start conversations that suit their many interest (for some, "CPU usage in computers", for others "brain usage in White House")..and the freedom to speak w/ the whole wide world!!!!..
Art is just the way we look at Life ; what we desire /wish/ love/hate/admire etc....
"let freedom Ring" as Jackie McLean used to say!!!!

ps:happy halloween!!

"stupid politics " ?

Post by steved » Sun Oct 31, 2004 12:00 am

Firstly - I totally agree with broadening out the debate in these forums to discuss important issues that affect our lives (anyway - some of the topics recently have been less than inspiring ) - be they cultural, social, political, technological - whatever. If you are not interested - don't read those particular topics.

I think calling politics "stupid" is missing the point. At the school where I teach we are constantly telling the kids about rights and responsibilities - and we all have a responsibility to form our own opinions based on an analysis of the facts that we can gather. In the fast moving complex world that we live - and with a culture of "spin " ( lying ) - it is often diffucult to know what the facts are. We have to just work a bit harder at it - and get our information from whatever source we feel we can trust. Politics affects us all - we have to stand up and be counted - and not escape to some complete fantasy world.

... what we also have in common is that we are human beings sharing the same planet and I feel we have a duty to be open minded and try and understand what makes us all tick. Why shy away from particular issues?

I generally find in these forums there are a good smattering of like-minded people and I value their opinions. As has already been said - we are a community - and personally it feels good to belong to this particular community - that's whay I keep coming back here.

Secondly - I've had a very busy time over the past few years with the usual responsibilities that come with advancing age. However , due to a recent change in circumstances - I have had lots of time to pursue my creative urges and I have never had a more creative time. I guess I've had a lot of experiences and thoughts over the past twenty years that have provided me with plenty of raw material to be going on with. Time rich / cash poor - it's the only way to be for the starving artist.

i make music to address as well as to sort through the sick world our little rock has become. we all have different motivations, and frankly, it's nice to see some that i can relate to on this board. technical jargon, while occasionally interesting and geeky, for the most part just bores me if it's not connected with some deeper introspection as to inspiration, motivation, and the inner drive that brings us to music.
PLease stop the political threads. Let's focus on what we have in common (Live) as opposed to where we may have differences.
i personally find a lot to learn in our differences. i have really enjoyed the political discussions here, as i have read some very intelligent responses from all over the world.

perhaps a separate section instead of the general forum would help???

just my three cents...

I think the original poster would have had a little more credence if they had titled it

[OT] please keep ...

as this thread is itself political.
Or is it sociological?

erm ...

either way it needed an [OT]

OT=OK but plz don't keep starting the 'same' new thread.

Post by muthafunka » Sun Oct 31, 2004 2:35 am

OT threads are OK but not when they start to overpower what should be the main focus of the forums: Live.
Everyone please have the common sense to not keep starting new threads about what is basically the same (OT) topic, just continue one that's already there. You also do yourself a disservice by continually posting new threads as the more threads there are around a similar topic, the less likely yours is to be read. If there were 5 Mac vs. PC threads at the top of page 1 of the forum which would you look at? As it is right now the more 'legitimate' questions ie about Live, from regular users and visitors alike are being pushed down the pages and ignored.

this forum is about Live (the music software) not about Life (in general..) as far as i know.

It seems that some people here still haven´t noticed the difference.. :?

This forum or any other forum, is still a FORUM.

1 a : the marketplace or public place of an ancient Roman city forming the center of judicial and public business b : a public meeting place for open discussion c : a medium (as a newspaper) of open discussion or expression of ideas
2 : a judicial body or assembly : COURT
3 a : a public meeting or lecture involving audience discussion b : a program (as on radio or television) involving discussion of a problem usually by several authorities

It's a general discussion forum in live. Nothing is off-topic
Unless you would start a political thread in the bugs and problems forum.
