the specivic purpose is to do music..

the design very often dont cares about that circumstance.

figure why

I use 3 faderfox controllers - they are small and light and run on batteries - I can see them being problematic if you have big hands, but I don't, so I win.

I think the APC40 design, build, size & weight are great.

For stage an studio, I use/need nothing more than an AP40, my laptop sits above it on an uberstand. I used to use a VCM600, now that is very big and heavy. Before then I used a LV2 faderfox which was great! faderox controllers are amazing little things for sure, LV1 is my fave.

oh shit.. i fucked the poll by adding an option for the everything is fine fraktion...
because szise can be relativ.. some dont consider the apc or launchpad as big...

could you please vote again?

i have the theory i wanted to proove here that many stage users would like to see things smaller than the designers.. so a strong tendency in the poll might change some thinking regarding the user needs..

sorry for inconvinience..

no statistics is as good as the one you fake yourself?

done.. though i would vote for all three about small. i think they're sexy, and the other two points are very similar anyways..

at least a vote for small :)

these things are perfect - and for some reason doepfer stopped manufacturing them. I believe you can still get them in kit format.

here's another wonderful piece that's been discontinued:

ok.for users that just have the apc with them its defently not too big or heavy,, it wights less than my nord G2 and is just half the szise...

The apc has much more controls on a similar space than the launchpad.. the buttons are half the szise. so its a big unit in itself but you cant really say that its wasting space..

the design flaws of the apc are rather in the software implementation..
And the limit of just 5 rows is too tight.... while the launch matrix has good proportions space is wasted in other areas.. the select and clip stop buttons dont really need to be the same szise..

and the faders could have been smaler . there is also no reason that the buttons have to be square...

as an dedicated ableton controler it would be actually not bad when the shape would mimik the proportions you have on the screen..

gives better overview

just as quick alternativ thought..

45 mm faders instead 16 faders.. or actually better rotary dials... when we dont have motor faders its maybe better without faders at all...

a 9x 8 matrix.. or 12x8 ..no master fader.. second rotary dial instead...

scene launch buttons in other shape as the clip launch matrix..

thats much better design in the launchpad there...

and a lot of different software handlings..
includes a mode that makes the matrix act as meter bridge.. ok..thats only working on mackies..

however.. i would go for an apc again when it would have more rows...

i actually had the biggest benefit from it from all the program related buttons and transport controls.. dedicated arm and mute was nice aswell..
thats the part i miss..the matrix needed to much scrolling to be real fun

just to little rows for the szise..
und quirky handling on stage with bad scrolling..

so it had to go..

i dont work with scenes so much.. i have a collection of clips i build scenes around the main sequence.. and i like to record new clips on stage.. with just 5 rows? you are constantly scrolling than..with the hanging scroll of the apc another riskx operation on stage...

I actually rather would choose a 8 tracks 12 rows matrix than a 12 tracks 8 rows one...

because you can reduce the track count but not the timeline.. and the timeline is processed verticaly in the session view...

so to limit the vertical portion of the matrix is a big designflaw for an dedicated ableton controler IMO
