just sample it and if you get released, your label will take care of it. That's none of your concern.

Ahhh, well my label has it in the contract that clearing samples is our responsibility!

I've heard of people having legal problems for samples that have been warped, mangled, effected to hell, almost unrecognizable.. Yet, Girl Talk runs loops that are almost completely un-processed and he's SELLING IT!

I don't get it.
Maybe Girl Talk is classified as a DJ. "Performing" a song similar to playing a jukebox at a bar, royalty wise. He's on a huge indie and they have lawyers that handle it. His shows are the whole point anyway, and they sell out at the drop of a hat. I doubt he gets a songwriting credit and publishing for a mash up. If he is then the world is sorta messed up. Wait...

Girl Talk now has to give his cds away with the option of giving him a "donation." I am not sure if existing albums/songs on itunes are still able to be bought but I know his latest release (Feed the Animals) was a freebie. I'm pretty sure he ran into some legal trouble somewhere, hence the switch.

That seems like the smart thing to do. I was downloading a Two Fresh album.. You had to add it to you cart, and "checkout" in order to download it, even tho it was $0.. So you can't get it unless you go through a couple screens where you'd be able to donate money.. Seems like a smart little deal because I'm sure some people will throw at least a few dollars..
