Well, digweed is playing the Dimension K event in Tokyo this Saturday....... The agency I work for manages the DK events, so I'm there... I'll try to get a peek at his rig, see what he's using....16 BIT wrote:Cool. Great to see Sasha using Live. I wonder if digweed woudl ever use live?. I doubt it. Hes always played it safe and of the two of them i much prefer sasha. he genuinely loves music.
more famous djs using live the better for all of us

So Digweed doesn't love music?
This is just a stupid thing to say.

Cool to see some famous people on the board. I still love your album on Thinner. Just thought i'd let you know...Kage wrote:I got an email from sasha a few months back while he was touring the states.. He wanted a samplepack of an EP I put out on the french label, Lumina. I'm curious to hear some of his recent ableton sets to see if he's using any of my songs or samples.

How do you use ableton to dj? I mean do you just use live and no turntables>? If so do you just load whole songs into each clip???? If you do this then you really arent a dj. You just click the clip to play the next element without even mixing. I mean Is this really djing? If so then call every 13 years old who ever owned a computer DJS!!!!!

The thing is, with live you aren't going to just play 2 tracks faded into each other and so on, are you?mpc2323 wrote:How do you use ableton to dj? I mean do you just use live and no turntables>? You're going to fuck about with them, loop parts, filtering, all sorts of other creative FX uses, re-sample things with FX on them and loop that if you want.
Drop accapelas from totaly different Genre records onto your mix, add your own pre-fabricated drum loops/hits and other elements like synths and basslines, warp them and mess with them on the fly.
Anyway the possibilities are almost infinite.
You get the idea i think!
Point is that anyone could learn to beatmix a couple of vinyl together, it isn't really that difficult with practise and it wouldn't make them a decent DJ. Same with live, its how you use the tools you have,.
I think its interesting to see peoples reactions:
1 - Because someone is famous, they are not 'underground' enough anymore, so its ok to make fun of them as being superficial ... or somehow not cool enough to be bothered with
2 - If anyone isnt playing hardcore minimal or esoteric enough, they are "trance" and therefore into musical fluff.
3 - That anyone that uses Live exclusively to DJ is "doing everything automatically" and any kid could do what they do.
All of those things are ridiculous
Just thought I'd point that out

1 & 2 - famous or not, he does play crap music. has for many years.
3 - there's nothing wrong with using Live. i hope it greatly improves what he does.
"People seem so bothered about technicalities these days that they don't hear the music anymore."
