What you're asking is possible without bomes but you'll still need to use a third party piece of software, you simply cant achieve what you're looking to do without a secondary utitlity.....
There was a fantastic thread on changing colours on here for colorblind people you might use that as a starting point....

Apart from that there's not much else i can suggest, the Akai does what it says on the tin and is supplied without an editor so you're stuck with it unless you can invest time and money in creating a template for it......

Thanks again for the advice...I've looked at alot of these things already. I'd seen the mononome emulator from track team. I'll check out that thread you recommended.
The reason that I made the comment about folks making money is that I'd emailed some folks directly never got back to me. I just assumed that the wanted to keep some things a secret since they were making money on this info. Once again thank you for setting me straight and I'm glad folks are not like climbers (we find area's and keep them a secret so are spots don't get crowed....I've been just as guilty as others)
