Take a tip from the table tennis world (ping pong). They do NOT use alchohol on their rubber. It dries out the rubber and accelerates deterioration. Warm water or soap and water can work wonders with the rubber. However there are some tars that you need some kind of solvent to attack, but it will attack the rubber too.

Somking is a personal choice, but not smoking in your studio would be a good idea.

I'd really need the
Cat's Eye treatment: quit, or your loved ones are going to get it...
Villalobos smokes in his studio so it can't be that bad - granted, he can just buy a new studio once everything's yellow.
