Novation fail.
Re: Novation fail.
I love small midi controller. I just need one big nice main controller- VCM-600.
Same- I was going to get the nanokontrol but saw the lpd8 and thought it was much better suited to me.

Yeah... my friend bought that one and I got to play with it one day. Very very nice piece.marconk wrote:I love small midi controller. I just need one big nice main controller- VCM-600.

But I have to say, I dig my APC40, but the thing is just too big. A mini sized one with similar functionality would be better. The VCM-600 is sick as far as a serious, pro piece of equipment goes. But for me, I'd rather get something small and light.

fair enough, but what in a little triangle plastic box not even the size of a cigarette package?,stonee wrote:they could have done better.
i think it is somehow neat to use that space and have the control rather there then on the comp.
people who play serato or using traktor often don't like to have the comp right in front or very close to the mixer,
the only thing i think could have been done better is to add two browse and load buttons, i use maschine as my traktor controller, before i hated that i needed to touch the comp for browsing and loading the decks. now i do it from where i control the rest, and especially for serato users who use timecode vinyl it could have been more designed to get totally away from the computer, except visual contact for track selection.
my two cents, but i think serato utterly sucks anyway. so i don't really care.
well 2.0 seems like a nice attempt to catch up with traktor

SubFunk, whats the maschine traktor integration like?
Re: Novation fail.
i totally love it, i don't use the NI template, i mapped my own, a 3 deck setup, where i have ALL controls i need on one layer (including fx, browsing, cue points, etc, etc) and i only have one sublayer (the knob/button page) with some minor controls, i might need here and there... so i basically don't have to touch the computer at all anymore, i only need visual contact for track browsing, i also have visual feedback of all the controls where i need it.marconk wrote:SubFunk, whats the maschine traktor integration like?
i also made my setup in a way (i come from over a decade of vinyl mixing) so i can pitch completely manually and i can rock a back2back with a vinyl or CD dj anytime.
and my system is in no time set up, comp with one PSU, soundcard via firewire and maschine via USB attached, 3 audio cables to 3 mixer channels and i start the comp and zzzzzzzz..... ready to rock. no fiddling about with loads of cables and PSUs and annoying stuff like that.
love it, totally!

I can't get enough of this.... thank god I can order it in a Multibox (10). I never play with less than ten turntables...
Multi Box (10):
W= 307 mm / 12“, H=492 mm / 19 3/8“, D=187 mm / 7 3/8“
Weight: 5.253 kg / 11.58 lbs
Could have been a nice option if one could stick those controllers together to design your own lego controller.

Re: Novation fail.
i think it's great for turntablist.. as far as bashing on the buttons, unless your heavy handed (then your skill with vinyl is more in question) and don't know how to properly set a tonearm, I don't think it would cause much skipping.. it's not on the record, it's on the side of the turntable.. I've seen dj's do worse than tapping on the side of the turntable and it didn't skip.. as a last resort, there is Relative mode in serato.. I for one am excited.. price seems reasonable..

oh man. this didn't even cross my mind. in the videos it seemed to work fie though? hmmm...Dalski wrote: For turntable fitting this is the single stupidest thing I have ever seen. Have these people never tapped on a turntable while the needle is on the record? Surely I don't have to explain this further!?
Fu©£wits!
other than this issue, which can be a really big issue for vinyl (but not CDJs) i think the design is great... its leveraging space on equipment instead of adding more footprint... it's also bringing the control closer in proximity to the control device the hands are using and its kinda sporty lookin

Re: Novation fail.
nanoKONTROL + LPD8 + Launchpad is my live setup.. the nano is beat up so I'm going to get a black one as a replacement..
If they made an APC with 8x8 I would ditch all 3 and just get the one, but 5x8 doesn't work for me cause I have at LEAST 8 scenes per track and I wan't to see them all.
If there was an lpk25 with mod pitch I would scoop it in a second.. and where is AKAI's response to the nanoKONTROL? they did the keys, they did the pads, but they skipped the control one, they need to one-up KORG and make a better nano that actually has MIDI feedback and some of the other stuff that the nanoKONTROL is lacking..

Re: Novation fail.
No, they didnt skip, there is almost exact copy of Korg nanoKontrol which Akai released under they cheapo brand Ion.Advantage over Korg Nanos is that Ions can be USB chained.outershpongolia wrote: but they skipped the control one, they need to one-up KORG and make a better nano that actually has MIDI feedback and some of the other stuff that the nanoKONTROL is lacking..
Edit: weird I wanted to ad picture and cannot find any, neither info about those controllers even on Ion website. Maybe they were too close to Korg`s and they withdrawn the idea/release. Pity, I liked that chaining idea.

Re: Novation fail.
This thing might be quite handy. I use the TTM57 and one CDJ1000 during 3x 7 hour sets each week and the extra buttons should be nice. The mixer is (almost) fully loaded, but the 6 triggers can be a bit awkward in a dark booth. The lights on the Dicer will work out great.
And £79 for a pair, its certainly cheap enough to have a trial - I only use 1 deck so I'll have a spare if the quality is poor

Here's a full article by Ean Golden- who was involved in the development of the Dicer.

Haha... I already thought he would have picked arcade buttons over this design...
He should have designed a small portable controller stand that can be placed in any club instead...
