i also only use Live 4 to produce music. live has been the only app for me for a while now. my friend and I have been able to create a steady stream of songs using live to cut up, shape and mix our improvisations. the workflow is so fast and easy that I am able to construct songs while improvising.
here are a number of things that we have put out there for people to hear...

live is now my main tool to produce because it really feels like a instrument and is easy and very intuitive to use . I use it everywhere without a keyboard on my laptop. I use a few vstI,s for sounds.
I understand why are people are so happy with live but i don,t understand why some people have to dis Reason.
A: still a great tool for producing dope tracks also together rewired with live.
B: I don,t know how rich some people here are but for the price of 1 vst,i you get a whole rack of instruments and nice shit.
C: nothing wrong with the soundquality only the overal output could be
louder....solved in 3.0

i wouldn't say there's 'nothing' wrong with the sound quality - the synths tend to sound weaker than good vsti and it's hard to get a nice, spacious sound.
you've got 3.0? i am curious about it.

not a case of how rich but of Priorities - after using NI Komplete + Live 4 I cant be happy with most of Reason's sounds and the new v 3 update probably wont get my cash because it doesnt look like it will offer me anything I need

I pump up the sounds with a sream sometimes only use it as a compressor.
I know the overal sound is a bit weak but if you know anything about producing or sounddesign this should be no problem. I think the sound
is cristelclear(not drrex) but sometimes it,s to clear and needs some
producing. The possibillities are so divers but needs to be explored
and also need creativity.
I don,t have 3.0 but yet but can,t wait to try the new tools, looks very promising...in the meantime having a great time using live.

Yeah I've pretty much abandoned my other supposedly more comprehensive and way more expensive sequencer. As a composition tool the session view in Live 4 has no rival. Then I switch over to arrange view to nit pick at the details and hone it down. I've used Live since version 2 and I've never had to read the manuals! And I've got three of them! I just stick a mastering plug-in at the end of the chain in my master track and I'm good to go. I usually do a little more tweaking in Wavelab before outputting to mp3 though.

Yeah, it's about time. Sony has Acid Planet for Acid users. What about us? Don't we deserve an expose too?

I use Audacity for destructive editing, Live to create music, and either Cubase or Protools (with a fuckload of outboard gear) for mastering.

can't wait to see what the new ableton product is....
if it's another app, maybe Live won't be my only production tool.
we shall see.

I know about a dozen guys who post tracks on AcidPlanet that they made in Live - it's the dirty little secret there, really. If you listen closely, sometimes you can hear the timestretching differences. For recording and midi work, live is EASY and HIGH QUALITY. For timestretching off of the Big Fish Audio sample CD, I find that the artifacts are a little more noticable in Live than in Acid, but hey - that's just me. I still don't use Acid regardless.
