If the problem is solely that you personally would find a compact controller hard to operate, it's all good. The point where you lose me is when you start comparing a DJ to a guitarist. That pretty much sums up everything I dislike about DJ culture. When a rock band performs their music, you expect an interesting stage show — that's why you go to "see" a band, not to "hear" it. The DJ's job is to play other people's music and make people dance, not to be the centre of attention. Actually, the only reason why the DJ shouldn't be behind a curtain is that she needs to see how people are responding. I don't mind DJ's getting recognition for a good set, but when they're elevated to stardom because they look cool jumping back and forth on stage, something is really wrong. The only thing that matters is what's coming out of the speakers. Of course, as someone who's into music production and controllers, I find it interesting to see what equipment the DJ is using, but ultimately, what's important is whether or not the music inspires you to dance all night, without train wrecks or unnecessary tricks and effects.

I wasn't comparing djs to guitarist I was comparing these type of controllers to guitars and other instruments, this looks like a great controller to me but it looks like a crap instrument to compose and perform on, mixing and blending reccords is a serious form of composition imho and these type of controllers do not deliver the ergonomic flexibility to compose comfortably, I don't want to feel like I can't even lift my elbows up to far cause if I do I won't be abletto control the controller well, I'm talking about stuff like that. I just think more traditional turntables are better for composing on and mixing in the feel department, if those aren't concerns of yours you could just use an ipod

Valid points for your performance preferences but my angle has always been the added features of Traktor allows for extremely creative and fun performances that don't really need any turntables or wheels at all. The most obvious feature is not needing to beat match at all in most cases which frees you up for other types of creativity.

For me personally the desire for some kind of wheels has mostly to do with when a song doesn't line up the cue properly and needs to be nudged slightly. Having to do that with a mouse or buttons is just annoying to me. But beyond that the wheels wouldn't be a major part of the performance and I could manage without any at all. But I realize for some DJs that is a major thing for them.

If they were any bigger, you would have great difficulty following on from the previous DJ when playing in a club. Most club booths have limited footprint space so this size to me makes sense both from this and portability. When being used as a controller, I have not thought "it would be nice if it was bigger" although this may be an issue for people with larger hands.
