Maybe they should have made it a group buy situation which could potentially bring the price down to $0.35 if enough people buy in.

Eh. You know how it is. The idea of the contest is to generate like 50 grand from remix part purchases. That covers the give away and booking.

Also. Lol at not liking the vocal. I guess it is girl poppy. But I was looking for something like that anyway. The 4 bucks isnt to bad.

I think who ever is doing it should do some private soundcloud sharing when they are almost done... Unless Im the only one. Then lol. Im all alone.

I'm not the one claiming $4 is an outrageous price to get stems from the world's most famous current electronica producer.

I was just suggesting an alterantive to those who are so offended.

hm.. not having time. but maybe.. maybe... :)

and to beat, thanks for the suggestion, but, you know, those who don't like to pay don't want other options. they want free stuff :)

at least i got the vocal + the dub version of the track. together that's around the same price :) now i just need to mix the original zelda tune to it, and it sounds like the first time i heard him live :) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOVHYstMPbo) i loooooove zelda, favorite game of all time :)

ermmm... I never called the price outrageous, I just said I didn't like the principle of it. Please don't lump me in with all those whining about wanting freebees from Ableton because they were down since Live 4, 'cause that ain't me. Remixes are a lot of work (at least for me). Then the winning entry is used to make $$ for everyone but the one who enters it. I just think the mindset is kind of lame, especially since I wouldn't have much of a chance of winning. The # of entries could be capped w/out charging for the stems if that is the real concern... obviously no one's making much $$ selling the stems. Anyway, my response was kind of tounge-in-cheek in that, if the song/artist was right, I would probably buy the stems in a similar situation w/out bitching about it.

I guess I thought complaining about this would earn me some props with the grumpy "I don't post in the post your music section because it's full of noobs & dubstep" lounge crowd. Will no geezers collude to bitch about this with me?!?

problem is, deadmau5 most likely would release it for free. but label deals would not allow this, as the track is not even released, and people can then (as i just did) combine it for free to have the full track, driving down sales and all (blabla, don't copy that floppy).

i guess that's why there is a price. to not get the non-interested to just download and be happy to have something for free..

Fair enough.

But if we really want to bitch about charging I'd like to rally against beatport for charging $2.50 for every new track even when that track is a 23 second transition track that serves no other purpose other than continuity of a full album and would never be something you would DJ with.

@dave... really? I think I would pop for the track before I bothered trying to combine all the stems to get it for free. That sounds like more work than it would be worth, and I would be worried that the final quality of the mixdown would suffer (missing some final leveling, compression, etc). Maybe it's just easier to control copyright issues if it isn't out there as a free DL? Either way, policy certainly isn't hard and fast as there are plently of rmx contests out there with free stems. Perhaps Beatport is just money grubbing and requires it?

I re-read my initial post and decided that I sound a lot more indignant about this than I am. Sarcasm is often lost in translation...
enjoy the contest, boys!!

well, i see fans of him recording livesets, ripping out the track parts, redoing parts to sound better in quality, and post that on youtube .. especially exactly that track. so yeah, i guess, if it would be free it would be online on youtube, right now.

oh, and, stick the 4 tracks together, and it sounds great in quality. great enough to put on a cd and sell imho (no loudness war type mastering on it, still quite loud and high quality). definitely good enough for the cheap free guys. and it was work of about .. 1 minute? redoing recordings and try to enhance their quality sure is more work :)

so yeah, people would download it like hell :)

then again, i bet it's on illegal download channels allready.. shall i google it? :)
