audio dropouts problem solved v4.04 mac ???!!!!!?????

with my set,
motu made the audio glitch once every hour.
With the rme multiface,
none.

This was happening during BETA testing too. I don't think going to those earlier releases will help. I was reporting it during BETA.

too.

Firewire800 looks great but the stability is not great
since the product came out just recently.

Regarding the 60% vpu reading zyk, are you talking about the ableton live cpu reader?? if so then i would forget that figure...its nowhere near acurate.....you have to read the cpu from the activity monitor...maybe you have already
My cpu on ableton never goes above 25% and i still get problems....

Dave, my set does seem a lot better without the m-audio card...playing thru coreaudio on my headphones i didnt get any problems......but i remember doing this before and just when i thought it was fixed, i got a dropout. I may try a different card as i did notice m-audio being mentioned a little too often...along with mutu....

any other suggestions for a card for the 17" pb 1.5ghz?

i use an 828 v.1( motu ) and it is now working great.
there are these rme cards that everyone swears by but i don't know if they make a firewire one for a powerbook.
that's all i know first hand anything else is just hearsay

there was a 4.0.5. beta up here (the link was posted in this forum from the staff at ableton) a few days ago
but it only worked until 7th jan !!!!
it mentioned nothing about the audio problems or cpu meter inaccuracy
in the list of solved problems, and when i downloaded it and used it, before i bought extra ram, it played back in much the same way as before:
glitchy and with drop outs.
i don't think ableton think it's their problem
and i'm beginning to think they may be right.
after spending a few extra bucks on my p.b. sorted me right out i've begun to realise how it must get difficult for them, when all they get as a response is a load of hard up musicians trying to cut corners all the time and complaing about how it doesn't work.
not everyone of course..... but you know what i mean?
i think it is mainly a question of the right setup , careful o.s. installation , correct hardware , and plenty of ram.

i know it is asking a lot but of you truely NEED this program to work , i think it's still a very resonable cost , seeing as logic 7 will set you back almost 700!

thanks dave...i totally agree with you 100% about the cutting corners....

but..

when you have done everything carefully on the installation and you have maximum RAM and you still get problems, it s a pain in the bumhole to say the least..

It seems as if ableton have gone as far as they can go in getting the program to work smoothly on the mac...

One thing that may be usefull and less time consuming for the ableton team would be to create set up guides for different systems....that way they wont waste time going thru lots of logs and datafiles trying to find bugs that are caused by ' cutting corner producers'....i think i will suggest this to robert etc....

you're absolutely right
i thin they really should be raising their mimimum spec to a more sensibl;e level too.
when i bought ableton i was under the distinct impression that my system was way out in front , only to dicover that i was really short of ram
and that other people are experiencing problems with higher spec systems too.
a more detailed set up guide would help , and would possibly make life easier for everyone in the future.
