Powered or unpowered hub? Latency of hubs is minimal, just someone a while ago posted that they did get some, less than 2ms from what I remember.
Powered 7-port Belkin. Works fine for everything else I've tried (haven't tried my interface through it), but for some reason the feedback from Live to the LP isn't always accurate through the hub.

As I think about it, it may only be a problem with the LP - I don't think I had any issues with the APC40 through it
Interesting, I for the longest time ran Kore through the same hub because it seemed to like the juice from the hub better than the laptop, something changed along the way, and to keep audio out latency down I run it through it's own USB port now. I run the Novation through the hub with no problems with feedback, but the LEDs on the Remote SL are on or off not one of three colors etc.

I also recall the LP having issues with not being recognized after returning from sleep, using the same hub. I'd have to unplug and replug to get it to work.

Odd, probably a bad driver, but yeah, it's a good point about USB hubs definitely that some devices don't like em.

You running OSX or Windows? OSX went from IMO crappy USB handling to dammed stellar! for USB anyway fkn hate USB in many ways! can't wait until USB3 is standard.

One thing to be said about USB though is you can hot swap it with no issues at all in OSX VS Firewire being a possible Logic board killer in long term use hot swapping wise, and Express cards not being swappable at all IMO, unless you like hosing your system.

It was on a Win7x64 laptop. Haven't tried using it with my desktop (tower's got a luxurious 8 USB ports, which is awesome), but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it behaved normally on the desktop.

Would not be surprised if it were the laptop's USB ports' faults, though. They've had some quirks here and there in the time I've been using it.

Well so far so good, every thing seems to be working (though I have only used it for a few hours). The only device that has been a problem so far is the NanoKontrol which required me to unplug it and plug it back in again, but with that said the NanoKontrol gave me the same problem on my pc (with its own usb port) and after some tweaking the problem (on my pc) went away.Hopefully I will resolve this on my Mac too.
Thanks you everyone for the info.

This is the one issue I've experienced--having to plug/unplug devices from time to time. This is pure speculation, but I attribute it to power issues: I.e., that weak power makes devices lose communication. For me, those issues have been mitigated by chaining multiple powered hubs, as described in above posts. My theory is that spreading out the power distro amongst multiple hubs helps ensure devices have the power they need.

Again, pure speculation.

I am glad I'm not the only one trying to run a billion USB devices through one laptop port. LOL.

FYI, on any laptop all the "power" is coming from the same source, same bus etc. A powered USB hub does in fact help. The only bottleneck you get from loading a couple hubs with a bunch of hardware on one USB port is the extra latency you introduce. You generally have 480mb to work with from one USB bus, which isn't generally multiplied by the ports to the outside world. You can get a slight amount more juice for non powered devices from extra ports, but a powered USB hub will cover all the power requirements of the devices, and from what I understand 480mb is plenty for twenty USB MIDI Devices and an audio card. I personally have run two hubs, four USB hard drives, PadKontrol, Kore 1 with audio out and MID out going to the Wretch, Rig Kontrol usb with audio in, Remote SL, MOTU MTP AV 8 MIDI port device hooked up to a Mackie Control, three hardware synths, a Logic XS key, and a Logitech mouse.
All on the laptops single bus for USB with no issues.

YRMV, but mine are pretty straight forward. :)
:D

yeah, i get the laptop piece. when i started my post my main focus was for desktop PCs. those front ports go out a lot and thats what i was really wanting to emphasize... just as a warning not to overload em so you don't lose them... permanently. then when i got to thinking about that daisy chain... it seemed a little messy so 2 edits later i was doing math :P

Happy Thanksgiving MW, Juan, glenn - and to the rest of the "bloody Yanks" in this thread. I dunno about you guys, but I intend to eat my weight's worth tomorrow and then... I'm going fishing 8)
