Yeah, regardless of what you do or where you go, my personal feeling is to just avoid the basement.

Plus, the smell of the bodies in the basement often becomes overpowering. Particularly in summertime.

Where are you located?

You could totally put on private gigs there. I know I would. Oh and weekly cult meetings. It does have a sweet chapel vibe to it afterall
Inspiring in deed
Next project: Stained glass windows on the roof.

Great looking place, but I gotta say it man, don't ever try to mix down anything in there. You basically play around in a huge reverb chamber. Unless of course all you do is 4AD type songs!
Also, what the fuck kind of money do you make to afford a house with an attic that big? or do you live in the sticks somewhere?

I've told you guys a million times. I'm a fucking BILLIONAIRE.
Kidding, of course. I make a modest/decent living - doing 3D animation and film work (formerly did interior architecture, furniture, and product design). However, I never lose sight of the fact that in the not too distant past I was selling off CDs for packs of Ramen noodles and smokes. Not necessarily in that order.

You've heard my stuff, so that's not far off the mark.
The space is great for rehearsal/practice time, and we have had some gig parties there. That's only half the space in that shot, so there's lots more room (TV area to the right, my wife's office space also to the right, more space and a back bedroom area to the left. I'm definitely spoiled here.)
You would think that the reverb/echo would be a huge problem, but it's surprisingly not. The sound really deflects off the angled surfaces and dissipates nicely. I actually do nearly all of my mixing - and a lot you guys are going to fucking cringe over this - on my MacBook with nothing but a pair of Sennheiser HD-280s.

This hasn't been much of problem because 90% of my music is recorded live; with very occasional mastering bits done after the fact.
I'm still waiting for 'Tarekith's Guide To Arseholes Who Record/Mix/Master Using Headphones'.

Just watched the cops block a car from passing in both lanes on my street, guns drawn the whole bit.
Ghetto rich is what I am.

If all you record is one instrument and don't add a lot of tracks etc. you can get away with murder. There's a reason the guitar bass and drum combo is so long lasting.
If you ever recorded a real drummer or live band in your room, or tried to mix that kind of music, you would know as soon as you played it on any other system how bad a big empty room is for mix down.

I'm telling ya, the room is one big sweet spot of sound. Just the right amount of reverb. Sometimes I'll go to a gig and can't wait to get home because I miss my sweet spot.
Okay, that's fucking it. I'll prove it to you.
EVERYONE OVER TO MY PLACE FOR COCKTAILS AND JAMMING. RIGHT NOW.

You see, this is why good parenting is so important.
Me: Raised by parents who taught me the value of a dollar and hard work.
You: Raised by parents who had you reading Chomsky by age 9.

both of you: parents are just glad to finally have you out of the house!
studio is the spare bedroom. tried renting a studio space, mostly an awful experience. between the noise bands, the slackers that lived in their studio and having to drive half an hour to and from it sucked. also had to watch the beer intake before the drive home. best part was sharing gear with other people. they dug my amp and beats, I got to kinda learn drums and play fretless bass. the jams with whoever showed up were pretty fun too.
