It's half the size of the FCB, and weighs less than an iPad. It's USB powered. That's one more power cord I don't have to worry about. While I don't think it's too small, I can see where people who are playing high energy live shows might have an issue with hitting the wrong foot pad. You DEFINITELY do not want to be wearing the trusty Doc Martens when using the SoftStep.

More like Chuck Taylors. They don't call it 'SoftStep' for nothing, lol.
That makes it useless for me.

Glad to hear you're liking it more, you owe me beeyoch!
Yeah, I think the size is going to be the number one complaint. I see what the intent was - make the thing ultra portable, but that may have been carried too far. Perhaps KMI were really trying to zealously go in the opposite direction of the FCB1010? Or maybe it's even a technical issue? Perhaps larger pad sensors just weren't conducting that well or there were issues if they went larger? I do think that the pads could have stayed the same size, but placed further apart.
A bigger version would make everything a bit easier. Even now I do have to be a bit careful when selecting a pad.
One cool feature that helps a bit with the small size is that when you press down on any pedal, you can program the board so that if your heel or something accidently rubs on another pedal, nothing will happen. This is helptul for the XY/rotation stuff.

So if this is your official come back to me saying that you owe me, that's pathetic and sad, and you get lumped in with every other narcissistic emotional cripple who thinks his online personality is his one big chance to be an alfa male.

I am leery of spending more money on another foot pedal, since I already have the 1010. But if it's a worthwhile investment, I will spring for it. I would like to know however, if there is a noticeable delay when pressing buttons, as it is important to have instant response when doing live looping. Is is a hassle to use the software in addition to Live? Does it open automatically or is it a manual operation? Does this work well with PC?

IMO Loop's posting style is like the kid at camp that goes around giving people wet willies (lick your fingers, stick them in your ear, get your mind out of the gutter.) just hit him with the nearest blunt object and be done with it.

C'mon, guys, lighten up. LSZ has given us a lot of good information about the Softstep (actually, even including his rants, but I wish he had talked to T/S at McMillen first, of course). But there is no point in being persnickety about his efforts to make good from his past, uh, sins.....
In my case (WinXP), certainly the Softstep has teething problems in Windows that were not mentioned in the manual, and the softstep software only talks to the hardware throuh the program, and not yet in Ableton Live (again, WinXP).
That said, T/S at Softstep has posted that a new upgrade of the firmware/software will be available for both Mac and Windows in days, not weeks, with new features, bug fixes, etc. In any case, Softstep does look like a winner (even if I can't use it yet), but I do think KMI is acting in good faith and take them at their word....

Well, cmon dude. We've PM'd one another in the past. I thought we had a scant semblance of an online friendship. I've said that I respected you and your music. Why would you suddenly think I'm going to be dick to you about this? In the other thread, after you had offered a couple of insightful comments, I gave a laugh emoticon and said that I'd better order another one or something. I appreciated what you were saying! I'm sorry if you think I was dicking you around here, but that wasn't the case. Not at all.

Just a circle back because KMI released a new hardware and software update that fully supports stand alone mode. Lemme tell ya, it's a GODSEND. It's so great to not have to have the rather RAM intensive software running in the background. It's incredibly responsive. The software remains a little finicky in terms of not being able to simple save your hosted mode presets as standalone mode versions (you have to recreate them for standalone), but all-in-all a rockin update.

Yet still no UK distributor...I feel like they think we're a third world country.
Do want, don't see why I should give customs a wedge of my money that I could be using on doughnuts and silly hats.

Does the pedal lock the setting when you remove your foot or snap back to default value? I use the FCB for volume of my loopers and am wondering about this.
