Gosh! Real good rappers was back in the 80's and early 90's! Nowadays it all sounds so cheap and without funk and message! I am thankfull that i had the luck to grow up with the real rappers and hiphop groups back in the 80's....Like Grandmasterflash & the Furious Five, Whodini, Ice-Cube, Kurtis Blow, Public Enemy, Gangstarr, The Big Man just to mention a couple. Today the beats and programming are weak and bad! And the message have nothing to do with the political sitiuation like it had back then...........Nowadays its all plastic! 8)

damn right, The Fat Boys debut album still sounds as fresh and unique as ever. Proper rap, proper beats!

Any sort of lyricist is good if they can be described as a poet, in my opinion - whether they see themselves as a poet or not.

but then, I'd be the first to admit that I'm not fully versed in rappers per se. :)

wow... your age AND the last time you had a listen to a good rap album is showing. I mean no disrespect to Grand Master Flash or the Fat Boys, but those guys weren't exactly dropping the most complex of rhymes and I hardly think that rapping about food makes a rapper ahead of the pack. seriously by 1990 both those references had been out stylized and out shined.

I think content is huge and i'm just as sick of rims, Tims and diamonds as the next guy... drug deals, fuck tha po-lice, and "bitches" are all tired themes/key words too, but Arrested Development and Digable Planets both could school above mentioned rappers by 93 - then there's De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Gang Starr, Funkdoobiest, and The Fugees who were all a bit more enlightened and at the same time a little more raw/street minded content wise, but hardly dropping the endless "up in da club" shit that has turned more than a nose or two up at the art form.

Meh, I lost interest in rap when it deviated from Hip Hop.
Now the only people who don't are all PC or funny, can't find stuff like this anymore. :(

you're the last person I'd expect to care about rap music.

hip hop and rap are not the same thing. you should know that by now, but you're not into either.

nothing personal, you kick ass in knowledge of the stuff you do listen to.
