i'm keen to move to melbourne too.. more arts friendly

well... if you want the "secret life of us" holiday camp experience then South of the river St. Kilda may be for you...

if you want the doof doof with a bunch of pretence then South Yarra/Toorak/Prahran may be for you.

personally i prefer the north side of the river experience... Brunswick st/Smith St/Lygon st... much nicer, down to earth... more arty vibe.

but then again, you could always get a big house in the burbs too.

nice one - i'm moving out there in september. i'm going to melbourne at easter to check it out. tried brisbane last year [not bad] and sydney the year before [okay but prefered brisbane so far]. mates have just spent 12 months round melbourne etc and say its the place.

No bull he's bought a place down here and plan on moving in permanently.
It's a strange old world when the likes of him buy up a big property in Frankston Sth (yeah I'm still a bit stumped also)

ahh Frankston... got to love it... i can strangly picture Carl Cox hanging out at Frankston Savers, buying those tracky dacks with the buttons up the side....

not sure being carl coxs (the big sweating smiley guy As Martyn described him) neighbour would be a good thing though! I do like to sleep now and then!

Well if you are going to talk about Frankston, why not Aurther's Seat? Great views!!! Hills and sea. Great to get the creative juices going. But it is out of Melbourne a bit. So if you don't mind a bit of driving, why not? That's where I would like to buy a house when I move back to Australia. In the meantime I can dream about it while I am here in Holland.

a year and a half ago i thought... Mornington rocks!! i should move there some day. Now Coxy has done it and if i do i'll look like such a stalker...
Rosebud rocks though, and i think it'd be worth it. The air there is so clean. You almost get high on it, seriously. I couldn't stay up past 10pm when i was in Rosebud. So much oxygen.

and fresh flake and bluefin tuna every afternoon... its heaven really.
under an hours drive to Melbourne too.

i should shut up now if i don't want the price of real estate to shoot up by the time i'm ready to move there. =X

Well, as a Brisbane boy (even though I'm currently living O/S!!), I feel I have to at least wave the flag a bit here: as someone has previously mentioned, it beats Sydney for livability, and as much as I love Melbourne, Brissie isn't as boring as some might lead you to believe.

The scene is smaller, to be sure, but it is pretty active, very diverse and growing all the time. The smaller size of things compared to other cities means it can be a bit easier to get in and add your own flavour to the mix.

Couldn't say how things would go for Simone workwise tho, so if you've got leads in Melbourne go for it. If I had to pick a city in Aus, it would be a toss up between Brisbane and Melbourne.

I was involved in production and promoting some (admittedly fairly underground) events in BrisVegas for the past 5 years or so... so if you end up heading there (even if it's for a while) then PM me and I'll put you in touch with some folks there who'll be happy to show you round.

Brisbane is nice but a strange place.... I have lived in both the Melbourne area and Sydney (Kings Cross) for 6 months at a time... Anyway back to Brisbane... Was there for a couple of days on vacation ... The city is very nice and clean maybe too clean it was weird I had this feeling if you littered you would be thrown in jail and it seemed that the whole city would shut down really early at night.... I found it very conservative there...

Being an expat and born in Melbourne I prefer Sydney over Melbourne and the winters in Melbourne are cold and wet and come to think of it the summer is not that great... Now living in Toronto the summers here are hotter than those in Melbourne...

Ok Komplex and crew you can now knock me off my soapbox....

BTW it is fucking freezing here in Toronto -20 celsius..Mmmm flake and chips..

we're the biggest travellers around!

.....that kind of smug satisfaction in going out to the rest of the world, having a look at where they live and quietly smiling to ourselves. (speaking as a dual Brit citizen that is! I cant tell you what a nice feeling it was getting my little boys Aussie passport in the post. Didnt even bother getting his UK one and he was born here!

Glad to be hearing some feedback on Brissie - the whole thing of having family there is a major plus with a small child, and also my cousin knowing alot of people in the music and arts scene there.

All your melbourne votes have definitely stirred things up - but in reality if we get there it's going to have to be a down the line thing as we just cant afford to stay there and check it out in the immediate future

and anyway Brisbane is the 3rd biggest city in Oz - and I remember hearing somewhere the fastest growing - so maybe theres something in that! at least it never gets cold
