Man that sync to harmonics velocity thing ROCKS.
It needs a new category of patches. Playing the same note has never sounded as melodic as it is now. How about a third option? quantize to harmonic scale :)

I have to admit that I was mostly indifferent when I first heard about Operator. I have Reason 2.5.

However, this sentiment quickly evolved into more than just a passing interest after watching monlolake's namm presentation. I subsequently downloaded the 4.1 update and went through the included lessons. I'll be copping this later today, for sure. Watching the video and then actually messing around with the demo did it for me—and not just b/c of the sound, which is incredible by the way.

I've been on this simplicity tip for about a year now--trying to get my whole process more simplified, and make dope hip hop music without sampling (except for drums--gotta use sampled drums). The thought of using just a few tools and going really, really deep with those appeals to me greatly. I won't be getting rid of Reason (especially after beta testing version 3), but I think I may put it on the shelf for a minute or two and sink my teeth into the possibilities offered by Live 4 and Operator.

I'm also about to pick up the Ozonic from M-Audio, which further pares down and simplifies my rig, as it would replace my 828 and my Oxygen 8.

It's on baby!
peace,

rahlo

i was at the presentation. i thought it was sorta cute how henke was all nervous. also- i obviously don't know the specs on the PB he was using, but the CPU meter was over 50 percent for almost the whole demo.

aw come on man, have you ever spoken to a large crowd? doesn't it rate as one of the two or three most frightening things a person can do? now imagine speaking to an anxious, expectant crowd at a huge tradeshow in not your native tongue. speaking to a crowd is HARD. he did a great job.

Ha, yeah. Now imagine having your own forum FULL of disappointment and outrage when they learn of your newest product. and these are presumambly your company's biggest fans. i think it's quite excusable for him to be nervous when the reaction here was so atrocious.

I lost a lot of respect for this board when all the crybabies started wailing about how operator wasn't exactly what they want.. and it was too expensive.. etc especially when this synth is actually pretty incredible. quite a few people complain that they would rather have an arpeggiator - well get this, operator basically has it's own arpeggiator built in via loopable envelopes.

you know who you are. what benefit was there to posting all that negativity publicly??? what crap.

Congrats on the start of a suite of "Live" instruments

Post by siddhu » Wed Jan 26, 2005 7:47 pm

Hi Robert,

Given that English is not your native language, you did a splendid job with your presentation. Public speaking is never easy let alone when you have to do it in another language. Personally, I think that the development of Live only instruments that expand and develop on the brilliant forward thinking philosophy/interface of Live is an excellent step in Live's evolution/revolution.

I would love to see a whole suite of high quality instruments that you buy a la carte for use in Live. Ease of use and programming is really lacking in software instruments and is one of the reasons so many people use pre-sets with modifications, so to create software instruments that are focused on the ergonomics of the user experience can only be a good thing.

Don't let the naysayers lead you doubt the integrity of your vision(s). The Ableton team has pretty much gone from strength to strength, so keep it up.

I agree with that sentiment 500% bro. Keep doing what you do, and don't sweat the ones that don't get it. Enough cats will, and ya'll will be fine.

Do you mean that it is more popular in Germany than in the US?

Or do you mean that it drives a talking car?

The question is not whether or not you are influenced, but rather what it is that influences you.

I already liked Operator, but after watching the video i love it. The brilliance is in the details. I am making the most extreme and exiting sounds now. Great. And thumbs up for joining in the forum Ableton people!
