components are audio units. VSTs are VSTs. Do you have your VSTs showing in ableton? Are you looking under VSTs or Audio Units?

ooops, i never knew that is possible...
I overlooked that detail all the time as i´m not using third party stuff extensively.
Wow - always thought there are no vsts for mac. i thought those are files needed by the components in a way that the components wrap the vst filesor the like.. how stupid is that 8O

and while we´re at it - are vsts "better" sometimes, or is there no advantage by using one or the other?

I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.

I could rant endlessly about how much more I prefer VSTs to Audio Units. Some might disagree.

But for anything from which you want to send midi (like an arpeggiator), you need the VST because audio units don't send midi.
