Re: How u use maschine in Ableton ?
I've tried out this method, and I suppose I could see more pretty groovy benefits to it, but on all in all, it just seems to take so much away from the natural work flow of Maschine. I think, I'm still on the hunt for my favorite method of interfacing the two, though I feel like I'm leaning towards just perfecting my flow with Maschine in stand-alone, and then exporting to Ableton once I have the skeleton worked out...
So many optional approaches.

and the Mackie Control template:

is a great combo for interfacing between the two.
I do like Maschine's standalone workflow the best though. A lot of the times I drag and drop the audio directly from Maschine as I come up with stuff on the fly or export the entire arrangement as separate sounds/groups.

Re: How u use maschine in Ableton ?
I prefer the quoted method above. I have much more control of scene and clip launching in Live than I do in Maschine. Maschine's scene mode is awful. Here's a screen shot of my Live template. Maschine does not sidechain, hence the kick bus, nor does it stretch audio loops. The drum machine track is for the Maschine instance and outs 2 and 3 correspond to groups B and C in Maschine. If I don't feel like messing with Maschine I'll just drop Geist in the drum machine track and route accordingly from Geist.Just32 wrote:
But doing this i have to program the pattern on live to trigger sounds on maschine... whats the point of that? I just could use a Live´s Drum Rack. What i need is to trigger patters in maschine from live, because is much much more easy to program a pattern in maschine that in live. Thats the usefull thing about maschine...

Re: How u use maschine in Ableton ?
I use Mashine directly in Ableton and it is awesome, you just have to copy the MIDI driver files from the Mashine install folder into Ableton lives folder.
This video explains in full detail how to get it working. the screenshot at 1:29 shows the location of the files to copy and where.

Re: How u use maschine in Ableton ?
the easier, the better.
Now I use maschine as a vst
the 8 groups in maschine are routed into 8 audio tracks in ableton.
that's it. I do my sauce in maschine ( mostly sampling), i can load some vst as well if I want to do clip automation.
then on the other side, I use Live session view + APC to trigger different things.
than I play around with maschine+mute+solo+patern+scene, and APC+mute+clip+stop+whatever + effects on master channel. It's kind of having two instruments to play with.
when I'm happy I record the performance than switch to arrangement to finish.
really simple and easy. I hate having complicated setup.

I have done everything that both of the above youtube videos say to do and i have read the control editor manual up and down but I am still running into issues with my maschine's midi info gettin picked up by ableton. Looking for some troubleshooting help please.humnumb wrote:

I copied over the maschine controller info into the correct ableton resources folders, assigned maschine as the midi control surface but still the midi track indicator wont blink in ableton when i push anything on maschine. kinda stuck now. curious if anyone else has run into this problem. any help is much appreciated

This is an old thread and I think there's been more recent info shared here since then as there are many different ways of using Live and Maschine together.cramos241 wrote: I have done everything that both of the above youtube videos say to do and i have read the control editor manual up and down but I am still running into issues with my maschine's midi info gettin picked up by ableton. Re: How u use maschine in Ableton ?
Have you tried the Mega maschine template?
http://megatroid.noisepages.com/2012/02/megamaschine/
This seriously improved my workflow.

The newer version is called MEGAmaschine++ – A work-flow oriented Maschine template for Ableton Live: http://megatroid.com/megamaschine/
" * 3 selectable pad modes. Toggle between using the pads for firing scenes, clips, or MIDI notes. Features the ‘red box’ like the APC & Launchpad.
* Navigate easily between tracks and devices without touching the mouse.
* 4-track knob pages for controlling Volume, Pan, Sends, Mute & Solo for the tracks currently selected by the ‘red box’.
* Selected track page to control the parameters of the currently highlighted track. Great for arming tracks and recording clips on the fly.
* Device page to navigate and control the devices on the currently selected track.
* Host transport control, plus lots of other functions to make your Live sessions as mouse-free as possible."

Re: How u use maschine in Ableton ?
Great to see there is an update on the MEGAMaschine Template I really loved ... thanks so much for your effort!
I installed it and about 50% is working - some features which are showing up on the Maschine Display not really ... like <<DEV our FOCUS etc. and the feature I loved the most > the Device Control knobs - are these still bugs or am I doing something wrong? On MAC LION / Ableton Live 9
Thanks

Re: How u use maschine in Ableton ?
I use Maschine in parallel with Live.Just32 wrote:I just bought a maschine. But when i set it up with live, i realise that live dont record any maschine event, as a change in the step sequenser or a that a new pattern was fired. So, u cant automate this stuff. Its anyway to do this ? If not, how u use the maschine to produce ?
Insert it as a VST, and do drum tracks in there while Live is running.
