No problem mate ,
When you record automation manually , with knobs and faders with your hands is great, it gives the automation a lot of "feeling".
but, lets say you want to do a cool nice sweep , or some crazy automation to control a filter, that maybe looks like a sine a sawsquare or a square , or a conbination of all these...
by hand you cannot do it, if you want a parameter to go from 0 to a 100 very fast , you cant , also, with curves you can adjust wich such ease the slope of a curve , easy fast and accurately.
if you still think doing recorded automation by hand and curves are not that different, well, mate , they are.

I also think this depens on the type of production you make ,
if you just do some simple volume fade in and out , of course is not such an issue ,
but if you want to do lots of automation , fx, synth paramters everything , it then does make a difference...

okok, thanks mate, that makes totally sense.
Indeed I remember that with cubase I was "building" automation curve like I'll build a groove.
Live on the other hand tough me how to give a more DJ or "live" approach to automation. Simpler, but more human.
I think obviously it's better to have all the possibilities.
Cheers.

Actually, ALL automation in Live is horrible.
First of all, no matter what you do, Live doesn't record automation into clips, even
when using Live's own synths.
Even if you record automation into the arrange view, once you put those recordings
into clips view, your automation is gone.
And the "percentage-based" envelopes have to be the most counterproductive
thing ever to happen to a DAW.
I will never write in Live for this reason.

The editing after recording, yeah? Where instead of say an easy to use bezier you are presented with a shitload of points that have to be deleted or dragged around. This is my experience at least.
