I'd like to see some boundaries established next time along those lines, though I have to admit that I wouldn't quite know where to draw the line given the numerous ways that people can interpret musical material (even stuff they didn't write) live.
THIS!!!

there should be a DJ/Remix division and a Live performance division, I am admittedly a remix artist and don't really "play" anything live, but its all my own production that I play/remix so there should be some separation to them.

DJ
Producer
Live Performer

these three divisions would make it more interesting in a way.

quality stuff! didn't realise there was such a thing as controller battles
not heard of that over here in the UK. might look into it - could be worth starting an event!

reminds me of the old dj battle competition days.
last one i was in was a vestax dj battle. i was djing/turntabling rare soul and funk and breaks.
i got put into a drum&bass/hip hop category because i was the only one spinning breaks.
got completely pissed. vestax decks were shit when it came to cutting and scratching so my rare 7 inches were jumping all over the place.
didnt make it to the next round but did get huge kudos from the judges for the tunes i was spinning.

loving the idea of controller battles though
surprised that the beats were quite mellow from a lot of the folk.
surely youd want to be playing stuff that made people move and made the floor shake.
mind you, a lot of it is definitely in the jestures haha. the more jestures you make the more whoops you get from the crowd.
