^ yeah i spent a large part of my life in south texas so spelling things in English wasn't important
i actually only thought of it because i have to grill my kid about proof reading... all. the. time. he just started 4th grade and the cycle began again. i gave him a proper evil stare and a "we're not doing this again" speech last night. we'll see how far that goes... you reap what you sow and all

On my Macs when you make a spelling or grammar error you get the little underline warning on ANY program or browser.
On my work Windows 7 computer at work, not so much.

Mac boy here as well, and I appreciate that feature. If it's underlined red, I'm on it.....but if it is green, I let it slide most of the time.beats me wrote:On my Macs when you make a spelling or grammar error you get the little underline warning on ANY program or browser.![]()

i bet he's the one who reported it... he might have even got banned himself in the process.
on the subject of ban; i had a little monkey threaten me with telling the mods on me and getting me banned in my PMs today. he says "i've done it before and i'll do it again" proudly, as if he was gonna scare me straight.

I'm laughing at this thread because I generally ignore 98% of the stuff that goes on in the lounge, and I have no idea who pissed off the Germans and got banned this week.

Re: Do you know how I know I'm old?
Naw mang I didn't think you were trying to pull anything. I'm pretty sure I would've been a metal head in the 80's too (even if I was ten years older) because Iron Maiden, Anthrax & Metallica were my Holy Trinity as an early teen and I didn't appreciate the more electro side of that time until the past few years (though more obscure stuff; I've heard 80's hits for 30 years, so, it's time to hear stuff from other countries or the not so well known) and since metal was strong until the early 90's, I don't think I would've burned out on it at the time. I probably would've thought of new-wavers as hipsters of the time, like less depressing goths and Cure-heads. But yeah, now is different. And since there's always a "20 Years Ago Revival" and kids in their early 20's and younger are sporting 80's band shirts and styles now (that tight-calf look with the jeans and rolling the hems at the ankles; I was guilty of that). It looked stupid then and it looks stupid now. Sometimes I can't help but think "poser, I was there when it actually happened", but the diplomatic part of me thinks that they're appreciating it. But how many are doing it just because it's a trend? Why should I care? It's not like I wasn't guilty of having a 60's & 70's period when I was their age. It still gets me though sometimes that no matter how stupid a fashion will be, people will follow it because some "star" ("oh that's different and you made it acceptable so I can do it now too") does it and next thing you know....Was not trying to pull the wiser than thou....
Funny thing was I hated new wave in the 80's, I was a hard rocker and took my self very seriously.
Now days I am SO all over anything New wave from the 80's. I just think there was some tremendously talented songwriting coupled with synths and technology. I even have my kids (under 10) into it.....
Sorry bout the off-tangent.
There's a great compilation of French New Wave called Bippp (79-85) you might want to check out (and the Comix album (a few standouts), they have a song on there, and Tesla Boy is doing some good 80's synth-pop, looks like they got a full-length out; I only heard the EP, half is a little cheesy for me most of the time, but some is great. And since they kind of fit in to it, The Presets have some great stuff. Oh, and Thieves Like Us, love the first album, 2nd one is so so imo. Well, a lot fluffier..
Grammar wise, just a few years ago I would say to Grammar Nazis, "Who cares? You know what they mean...", and now I see it so much, can't quite pinpoint what it is but it has something to do with societal decay, or at least some form of representation I didn't realize I cared as much for until more recently. It's a completely different thing from misspelling, also. I was just razzin ya, though, if that's a word. I think you know what I mean:p

Totally all good, you can razz all you want. I prefer it, as it "humanizes" the communication.....shadx312 wrote:Naw mang I didn't think you were trying to pull anything.
