Yeah that's the thing though, I've gone through the OS9 to OSX move with NI, the PPC to Intel move and in each case it wrought havoc on older songs unless I printed to audio or spent hours and hours transferring presets and days/months/years waiting for NI to move, and in the process i've been a slave to a company with a huge, massive amount of products to support who are making money hand over foot (in their own words), who discontinue a freaking delay plug in instead of freezing development on it like other companies do.glitchrock-buddha wrote: Just to let you know, Vokator, Spectral Delay and Pro-53 all seem to work fine here on Lion.
The real trouble will come when Live goes 64 bit. Then we will have to chose between abandoning our older plug-ins that are no longer updated or not updating to a newer DAW. I'm ready to move on and let go of the older ones at this point. But Lion is much less of a hurdle than 64 bit Live will be. I haven't had trouble with any plug-ins at all after going to Lion. It more commonly affected hosts. I know Live had to make some changes and so did novation automap, but plug-ins generally seemed unaffected for the most part.
I'm not moving away from NI overnight, but I am slowly releasing dependency on their products, the ease of getting modern sounds with their software is far outweighed by the drama of dealing with their seeming lack of concern about any sort of product stability in terms of more than about three years. Again great products, but of all the plug ins I own no other company has had me pay out as often, or has a track record of discontinuation as high.
Seriously off the top of my head:
Camel Audio
Ohm Force
Nomad Factory
PSP
U-He
FXPansion
SoundHack
Audio Ease
Waldorf
AAS
Xils Lab
and NI has cost me more to be on Komplete 6 than all of then put together.
I have no doubt that a 64 bit upgrade will require Komplete 8 which will render Kore, Spektral Delay, Vocator, B4II, and pro 53 dead. The sample library oriented ones will work in Kontakt, but with no other company will I pay so much to lose so much... and no I don't want new shiny replacements, I just want older fucking songs to not be ass raped by the whims of a single massive plug in manufacturer and require preemtive surgery on older songs to keep them from falling into the the abyss.
