PRS works with the free kontakt player.
The others do require the full kontakt 4.

I don't have session strings (either version) so I can't compare them directly. I like the sound of PRS, but PRS is the best string library i own too, so take that opinion for what you will. (I think the session strings demos I've heard sound pretty good, and will probably upgrade to komplete ultimate 8 at some point).
I like the concept of the animator in session strings. That is a very cool playability feature.
However, session strings is only chamber (quarter) division, so if you need/want solos and/or larger ensembles, it's still worth picking up PRS.
And PRS completely blows away any other string library at the lower end (miroslav, garritan, etc.) For $63 it's almost a no-brainer imo.
PRS is pretty dry too, so you can put it whatever room you want; a good reverb makes a huge difference imho. Since it's in kontakt you might be able to get it in the same reverb space as session strings if you had it.
It has some nice features - the auto-divisi works decently (but isn't as dramatic as I would have thought... it is definitely noticeable though!. The smart legato lets you play chords and still have legatos between notes.
I'm hoping to get the brass soon, and will post some thoughts when I can get it all installed, if i can.

Re: new Kirk Hunter group buy - strings, brass, up to 75% off
I've considered buying NI Session Strings since I have an e-voucher that needs to be used soon. I mainly create original hip-hop beats that sound like they contain vintage samples. Session Strings sounds appealing because of the Motown-style patches and articulations. I haven't heard any demos of PRS that would convince me to buy it over SS for this genre of music. Does anyone have any hip-hop, soul, r&b or funk songs that use PRS?

i haven't heard any either. you could be the first in hip hop to use these. anyway, best thing is to download the demo and try for yourself. the demo is from Concert Strings 2, but PRS is a lite version of that. instructions and demo link:Chisel wrote:I've considered buying NI Session Strings since I have an e-voucher that needs to be used soon. below is a link where you can sign up and immediately thereafter download a free trial of the 1st violins (whole, half, quarter and solo divisions) of Concert Strings 2. You need the full version of Kontakt 4 or newer to use it. Once downloaded unzipped and loaded into Kontakt, it will time out after about 20 minutes. Also, it only includes an octave of the range (middle C and up an octave). Note limit is 500, but once that is exhausted, you can reload the file to play it again.

BTW the upgrade to TVEC 3 for $29 is well worth it.

for the group buy, PRS includes TVEC3. An even better deal.
i haven't gotten time to do a full demo yet, but I had PRS, and just got concert brass II and solo strings II. The solo strings were the only weak point of PRS IMHO, and solo strings II adds the round robins and things it needed... much improved i think. Together they are a formidable combination.
