apparently this is a big cover-up by Open Labs. They have recalled all 150 machines that they have sold since January. The circuitry is so badly done that after only a few minutes of play they start to smoke and burst into flames.
Richard said after the set that he was actually meant to play for another 30 minutes, but the keyboard started to crackle and fizz, and then flames started coming out of the CPU.

well its obviously not baseball bat proof.

what has always turned me off about the Neko is the size. (and the price).
since its an all in one unit, its freaking huge and awkwardly bulky.
you could build a dual opteron 2 space rack computer yourself for under $2G's much better for travelling with. but since Live doesn't utilize 2 processors for the audio engine, you may as well get a single cpu laptop.

like the HP in my sig that i'm selling....

so whats the deal? was the fire deliberate?

its rock n' roll, but in this day and age somebody probably got hit with a hot piece of shrapnel from the neko and will sue for a few million.

from the site: "Don't miss the insanity and art!"

Obviously planned idiocy.

Oh, so THAT'S what art's about. Yeah man, insanity is cool. Hey look at me everybody, I'm such a free spirit because I bust stuff, but I still need nerds to build it for me.

Okay, I admit, maybe if an entire orchestra smashed their gear up at the end of a symphony in the albert hall, i would be a bit amused, but the whole instrument-bashing thing is so try-hard, I'm not sure what it's meant to convey - anarchy? penile girth? conspicuous consumption?

I hope that thing's biodegradable.

bah, such cheap tricks to get attention.

even Hendrix made a complete fool out of himself doing this kind of stuff.

hendrix wasn't trying to sell zippos when he lit his axe at monterery, and it wasn't some planned event. it was a genuine grade-a drug induced action with no ulterior motives beyond whatever was going pn in his aciddy liitle brain.

I think he was trying to upstage the Who, there was a bit of rivalry between him and Pete ("researching my book your honour") Townsend as to who was the most wacky guitarist.
After the Who's set, where they trashed their equipment, he had to go one better and came up with that zippo marketing ploy ;)

don't agree. Hendrix didn't need these cheap tricks. managers asked him to do that I've been told.
