I used to be. The Mrs. would occasionally come in and count the pieces in the rack and do a quick scan of synths, guitars. I thought I was the only on...
Times have been less fortunate. Still trying to come up with the cash to finish a instrument I'm building. Have some squirreled away. Although I keep looking at Reason 6...
I do miss the excitement of a shiny new whatever  :x

and i thought i was the only one.
almost everything i bought has been sneaked into the house.
when caught i would have to lie about the price.
"yeah i talked the guy down at guitar center, this akai mpk 49 usually sells for 399 but i got it for 50"

She earns just a little bit of our income, so she can't afford 200% shoes. I say let's get them, I got the money. She says no no, ok, then these ones that only cost 100$, that would be cool. Then I offer her these 100$ shoes, and go buy me a mopho keyboard, a launchpad, a lpd8, a livid code and an upgrade from live 7 to 8...

To be cool, I sometimes offer her some 200$ shoes (or perfume or whatelse fits her well), and all is great, I can keep on :D

But I would NEVER buy any gear that is not deeply needed if I am short on cash.

Not a GearSlut enough, The Lounge fits me well

No, trying to hold off on heart attacks until I'm at least a little older.

I'm single so I have no idea :D

I've often been like that with my parents though - not literally sneaking gear (I didn't have lots of music gear when I lived at home, and I've not lived at home for a good few years) but I can relate to what you guys say about lying about prices of stuff, etc.

I don't think it is useless, as I like to see my girl wearing beautiful clothes, and she is more happy when she feels pretty, so that's good for me too  And, like for software, hardware, cars, anything, you CAN tell, feel, see the difference between a 50$ suit and a 250$ one...

the OP was speaking about spending $$$ on musical gear while the money would be needed to pay the bills, food... implying the woman did NOT spend $$$ on expensive woman stuff.

indeed, if your girl has money for her "useless" stuff, you don't have to care and can spend yours for "useless" stuff too

When I told the mrs that I wanted a new hardware synth 'cos "the old one is really not working so well these days" she Facebooked a friend's sister (newly working in a local music shop) who got her long-serving colleague to get me 20% off.

Lucky me to have a well-connected and understanding wife.

If you could make it look artificially worn and dirty you could tell her you found it...unless you're desparate enough to make it actually worn and dirty....(hell no)

Maybe that's a good idea, like a "wife protector" - a transparent laminate cover for gear that has dirt and scratches in between the 2 layers of laminate. When you know she's near you can keep it on just in case.

The tagline is "I found it, hon!"

The good thing is you don't have to use it for long because you can tell her you buff'n'shined it.
