Don't forget that Maschine ships with over 10 GB of cutting edge sounds, it can be used in standalone mode and can host 3rd party vst's. It has pretty good sounding drums too. And it's functionality is sure to be expanded by NI. I envision them developing it into a full fledged DAW someday.

It doesn't have quite 10GB of sounds, it was about 7GB total install of Maschine and Komplete. It's so complex and deep I'm intimidated. Maschine Mikro is overwhelming. I like having my drum pads on crack as I refer to it now. It was an overkill purchase but as I warm up to it I'll feel it was a great decision. Thanks for all of the input everyone.

hope you get on well with it, I'm out of town but soon as I get back I'll be scouring for a good micro deal to pounce on, I have a maschine 1 but I feel like the mikro is the perfect size and mpcstuff.com has these great feeling chunky pads that I want to try out on maschine that don't cost too much, the mikros pads are already nice though so I dunno

starving student, if you had the $$ I'd say try to buy it now, great deals through vendors on the unit, free expansions and half price expansions/app until the end of tomorrow the 28th.

As far as the pads, I wouldn't replace them, this Mikro seems stout. I like it as a piece of hardware over the padKONTROL. The Mikro stays put when being played hard, where the padKONTROL moved around due to its light weight. I wouldn't put the new mpcstuff pads in it... 1 because you void the warranty doing so. & 2. the velocity response seems great throughout light touches and excited pounding. The mpcstuff pads are good for upgrading the mpd series but I like the padKONTROL and Maschine for their already rock solid pad performance as sensitive drum pad controllers.

Also, just watch any video of Jeremy Ellis and a Maschine if you want to see what it can handle.

I've got this thing about paying retail, I'm hoping I can find some disgruntled user on his way back to the mpc
that's how I got my mk1. I've kept the stock pads on the mk1 and I'm really happy with them but for the mikro the thought of those chunky pads maybe in grey or even white with the black lights under them is so tempting. but yeah one would need to be discrete about the warr tis a tuff call

Additional note:

Not only can I run Maschine from inside Ableton, I can run multiple instances of it, all midi synced to and adjustable from Ableton's clock.

As a test, I loaded 4 instances of Maschine as instruments then loaded different song projects in each of those instruments and voila, the songs were all beat adjusted and I could choose between any combination of the 4 using the volume faders.

I felt like a DJ but it seemed way too easy. :D
