my point is : check out those comments. (tldr; Apparently Lars Ulrich/Travis Barker is waaaaaay better, this old guy is no good, etc.)
So, there is no winning. Even Buddy rich is not good enough apparently!
So this kid is being entertaining to a crowd, that's all that's required. it's pointless comparing him to J. Ellis / Lars Ulrich / etc. It's not a good mental trait. It illustrates only bad things.
tldr;
nothing is ever quite good enough for the fine people of the internets

I do agree a little bit with Angstrom, what the guy is doing is "fun" and definitely entertaining.
He's definitely stirred up the crowd so props for that.
It's a lot more exciting to watch than someone just tweaking knobs and standing in front of a laptop.

if he's chopped up bits from the original song into loops(1/2/4/8 bars) and one-shots that are in time then no matter what pads he hits, as long as it's in time, it's going to sound decent.
He's not playing live drums! he's triggering loops with drums already playing in them.
If you listen closely, he is improv-ing some drums over top, the main loop continues to play through while he adds drums/fills and things. There are parts where he is doing what you are saying but he is also doing some live drumming, its just supplemental.

How come when I hear Skrillex's song, it's shite, but when I see and hear what this guy does, it sounds awesome ?
I had seen other videos from him, he's fucking talented

While these guys are good at what they do, I would get extremely bored after a short while if I was watching it live - the novelty would wear off pretty quick. That said, it is still pretty impressive!
Essentially they (this guy, Jeremy Ellis etc) are playing one instrument and it's almost like they are more interested in showing off than anything else. And that's fine by me, but it all begins to sound a bit samey, even if they are switching between drums/samples all the time. If this type of thing was part of a bigger ensemble where they are playing off other musicians and vice versa, they would actually be far more effective and their talents could be utilised in a far more interesting and musical way.

Finally some sense of quallity happening in this tread..
For the buddy/jazz-haters/dislikers, see Jojo Mayer. Pretty close for todays standard.
For "finger tapping" see Trilok Gurtu or any good tabla player. Beats the crap out of any pad-player.
But I suppose this forum is mainly for electronic music. Maybe I should spread my acoustic propagana somewhere else on the internet.

If you are addressing "Buddy haters" you are in the wrong place. I was talking about YouTube , YouTube comment mania, and how hating players is apparently a way of life on the Internet.
I bet less than 1% of people here know who Buddy Rich actually is. The only reason he is in the thread at all is to indicate a certain kind of comment/commenter who is unsatisfied with everything.
Music is not a competition, it is an entertainment.
You cannot please all the people all the time. Even Buddy Rich has detractors
If you entertain even one person then you are doing it right.

A couple of years ago I was in a crazy science vs religion comment-war on youtube(for MONTHS). I ended up smashing my screen
Luckily it was at work though

Had a hard time explaining that one to the boss.
Ehhhh.... Ehhhh.. ok.. ehhhh... You see, it wasnt really my fault..
