Eddie, everything you said is correct. However most direct boxes actually serve 3 purposes. First, they convert unbalanced to balanced. Second, they offer transformer isolation and a ground lift. Third, they act as a split.
As far as I can tell, the poster doesnt need the split or the unbalanced to balanced conversion.
There will be times, though, when he will still need the transformer islolation to keep a clean signal.
I recommend keeping these items in your toolbox for live performing.
For each stereo output:
2 trs to xlrm
2 trs to xlrf
2 standard mic cables /xlrm to xlrf (in pairs of different lengths if you want)
2 rapco isoblox
This way you are prepaired for short or long runs to trs or xlr with the option of isolation
