ableton orchestral essentials
Re: ableton orchestral essentials
The demos sound quite impressive, obviously it's good at what it does cover. Also seems like it might be a good complement to the EIC orchestral sounds. Quite tempted by it TBH.

Re: ableton orchestral essentials
Thank you theophilus. That explains it. I will be saving up for the OIC to get the full package for what i do.
11" MacBook Air, 1,8 GHz Intel Core i7; Apple Thunderbolt Display; Ableton Live 8 Suite; M-Audio: Ozone; IK Multimedia: Amplitube 3, Amplitube Fender, Amplitube Jimi Hendrix, Ampeg SVX, Stealth Pedal.

I purchased the Project Sam Orchestral Ensemble Essentials yesterday, and not only do they sound great, but I think they represent a very good value. For $99, you get some very lush and useable string, brass, and woodwind sounds in many of the more common articulations. The best part of all is that it doesn't use that CPU-hog known as "Kontact". Very efficient and very easy on the ears (beautiful, actually)-- that's how I would describe Ableton's new partner instrument.

Picked it up. I've always wanted to get Symphobia but thought it was it bit overkill for what I needed. So this got me pretty pumped. The Project Sam sound for 99 bucks. So far so good but one issue I have is that "String ensemble all" pops or clicks a lot. I have 2.3 GHz intel macbook pro with 4 gigs and motu 828. Is my HD to slow? It almost sounds like bad loop points but that can't be it, right?

Picked too, In my case It's my first orchestral library, and I was resistant to spend much money before know what I want. It's small, but sounds amazing, sometimes less options makes you to go deeper on the library.Demorgan wrote:Picked it up. I'm very happy with I got for $99,00, you can't get another library with same quality for the same price.
In my computer, there is no pops or clicks, maybe something with your computer? My is a MBP i7 with 8GBs but I think you don't need a powerful computer to run this pack at all..
Re: ableton orchestral essentials
Got it too, tested pizzicato strings so far, especially like it mixed with pizz. strings from Kontakt library. No pops & clicks. Actually it happens sometimes, doesn't matter which instrument I use but I believe it's my NI komplete audio 6 driver issue cuz when I use just built-in audio (Macbook Pro) it never happens.

Re: ableton orchestral essentials
According to Ableton's blog, these are the differences:mannheimguitar wrote:I am pretty confused now. Was about to buy Abletons OIC spending €499,-. Now OEE from ProjectSAM shows up for €79,-. What exactly is the difference and is it really worth now going for Abletons OIC?
- OEE and OIC are separate instruments containing different samples. The sample sets of the two instruments do not overlap.
- While OEE features only ensemble sounds, OIC features both ensemble and solo instrument sounds.
- OIC is a highly detailed orchestral collection. It features finely-grained mapping of multisamples - to greater level of detail than OEE.
- OIC contains a greater variety of orchestral instruments: in addition to solo and ensemble brass, woodwinds and strings, it also features a full selection of orchestral percussion. OEE features ensemble brass, woodwinds and strings. Some of these can optionally be double with xylophone or piano.
- OEE also features an assortment of one-shot orchestral effect samples.
- OEE is recorded close-miced, while OIC features more room tone from the recording.

The reply from ableton regarding this:Demorgan wrote:So far so good but one issue I have is that "String ensemble all" pops or clicks a lot. I have 2.3 GHz intel macbook pro with 4 gigs and motu 828. Is my HD to slow? It almost sounds like bad loop points but that can't be it, right?
Please update to the latest version of Live, and check if that solves the problem. You can find it here:
http://ableton.com/latest_versions
Drop outs and clicks can happen for a number of reasons. Combinations of computer power and the complexity of the Live set are determinant factors.
Please adjust the Output Buffer Size (Preferences/Audio). Try to go as low as possible and see when the crackling occurs.
It's important to note that you may also experience clicks, pops and drop-outs when a buffer size setting other than a power of two number is used. You should always enter power of two buffer size numbers like 128, 256, 512, 1028 etc.
Here are some additional tips to saving your CPU :
- Change any clips that are in RAM mode to off.
- Freeze tracks that you do not need to adjust in realtime.
- Take effects off of individual tracks and instead, put them on a return track instead and then turn up the send on the original track.
- If you use a number of synths, you can have them all reside in one track in an Instrument Rack. You can then create a chain of presents in that Instrument Rack.
- Please be sure that you are plugging your USB soundcard directly into your computer, rather than plugging it into a USB hub first and then to the computer.
If your problem still persists, please send us a Status Report from the Live set in question.
You can generate it by clicking on Help and then choosing "Get Support".
