Personally, I find iPods to be quite ugly! After a while of usage that white colour they use is going to turn into a dirty cream colour. If they made them in black, silver or metallic blue I might consider getting one.
like this?

Same here that's why i bought the Black and Red one - the whites one are ugly and the mini's are for girls.

I'm not a big fan of U2 but whatever

Black and Red is sick

I love my Ipod - you don't have to burn CD's anymore just to listen to your mix or a song you made - just import and skip on out the door.

I like the white headsphones better than the Sony earbuds - I try my hardest to hide the fact I have an Ipod because the people in Seattle who have them are not heterosexual (what does that say about me hmmm)

but until I can find some small heads phones that aren't white and nice and long and sound good I guess i have to be classified as a Ipod Todd!

These Sony earbuds are awesome! You'll immediately realize how crap the Apple ones are. Maybe not as sonically accurate as the Shure buds, but tons of awesome tight bass for an earbud at a fraction of the cost

For posers, also available in white!

I am looking for a mp3-player that I can use as a hard disk as well ( i know, possible with an ipod, but only with some hacking), that also has a fm-receiver, a microphone and a line-in-plug.

did you see something like this?

Any iPod is an instant Firewire hard drive as soon as it's plugged in to a Mac with Firewire extensions installed.

No hacking required!

That's fine!

But: Wouldn't an "instant Firewire hard drive" mean that it is working with any computer that has firewire?

I want something that I can use to record from the hifi, carry files from my mates pc to my laptop, and on the bus ride I want to use it as an fm-receiver. While I am listening to the program I suddenly realize that they are going to play rare unreleased mouse on mars-live-recordings, so I hit the record button and record it. And because it has an audio-buffer it will record the program right from the moment when I put the radio on.
Should be technically possible, but the industry appears to not want us to have consumer-devices for recording that are platform-independent.

Or what's the reason for the crippled recording-facilities of the ipod?

Like a TiVo Ipod - I bet it'll happen sooner than you think

Why get an iPOD?

Like there are other MP3 players which are simple USB and don't require
any extra software or drivers. Just plug them in and transfer files.

iPOD needing iTUNEs and being all locked up so you can't just simply use
it as a USB device seems like a complete waste of time.

If I'm going to buy a 40G HD to carry around.... I want it quickly
accessable on any system.

They are small and solid build...that might aplie to some actual other models aswell that copy the ipod..but in the first hand the ipod was a quite well designed product...a more minimal approach than earlier mp3 players had...
Good design is not only optic... i am however sure that there are better headphones around... but why spending more money...

Hey, I'm not ashamed to admit that I love my iPod.

Well, not that I've MADE love to my iPod.

But I'm sure Griffin will have an iPod adapter for that soon enough...

I'm gonna buy a 4 gig mini when the price comes down. Then I'll listen to the music with my big ass nerdy looking Sennheiser 280's.

Then I'll scoff at all those losers who have crappy headphones.

Somebody asked me the same question - why buy an IPOD when you could by any other kind of MP3 player?

Well that's kind of a rhetorical ? Wyy use Ableton when you could use Logic, why buy a Toyota when you could buy a Honda

You get the idea - I like mine it's nice

It is kind of weak that you can't just take the thing over to a PC and USB it up but I don't care.

well, uh..

I do that with my Shuffle.

The fact that my player plus the two and a half CDs I've got on it cost less than my cans is sobering.
