Re: Live Drum Rack control (MIDI, Maschine or what?)
Bomes template with DrumPads nothing else.
Green Pads are for playing, yellow are velocity pads pending which green pad you have pressed.
The Red blinking button indicates playable pads. When pressed down you can push green pads for Selection, without drums getting played
After starting Bomes and then opening the Live set, click the "initialize" preset in Bomes and let it run it's course. after that things should be ready to go.
Drum FX selection only works in DrumMode (when Track Selection 1 is active.)
Any other Track Selection button including Master Select gets you back into Default Matrix

Here is a Live set with just the DrumRack on Track 1. Should work as a demonstration of these ideas. Live will tell you samples are missing, you can hotswap them out, OR just rebuild the samples. HOWEVER, if you rebuild the Samplers make sure you look how the keys and chains are distributed on the missing samples.

I am sharing these things for testing and inspiring ideas, nothing more. I deleted files from my previous post because I dont want to be sharing samples and vst that 'may' have been in there that were not for public sharing.
Have fun.

Re: Live Drum Rack control (MIDI, Maschine or what?)
Hi Juan, thanks again for this. It's brilliant! I've been trying to figure out how to use it. In the most recent example project, when I click clip/track, device on/off, left arrow, right arrow... etc... it selects certain macro sets but the knobs don't control the macros. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
In Live's preferences I have the APC turned off as a control surface... and turned off as a remote etc. Is that necessary when using it with your bomes template?
Any chance you could upload a simplified version of your example project only containing a small number of drum samples? I tried hot swapping out the samples to get this working but there are tons! Thanks again so much for this man. Gives me a lot to dig into to learn from.

I'm not sure what is wrong exactly. This is all very much a work in progress with high chances of sharing in a sloppy manner.UCAudio wrote:Hi Juan, thanks again for this. It's brilliant! Sound like the blue hand is not doing what the bluehand is supposed too....hmm
I started with something WAY complex, and over time do my best to trim the fat.
I really need to post a video and breakdown of how everything works, and what dosent work, and what is buggy.
Not only to share with others, but as a comprehensive reference for myself.
As far as Live's prefs and Bomes.
In the upper portion (control surface drop menus), I have the APC40 selected and then Bomes 1, AND bomes 1
For Input APC40/Bomes 1 Track and Remote both ticked.
For Output APC40/Bomes 1 Track and Remote both ticked (this may have changed, dont have my computer with me right now)
There is a brand new post over at the Bomes forum which will hopefully resolve some current issues with the redbox
HOWEVER, I had recently created a work around.
It's been a couple of weeks since I was working on all of this, but I will be back on it soon and work indefinitely until finished, OR until Live 9 is out.
Eventually there will be a simplified version ready for anyone to download and easily customize to their liking
AS well as come with a lighter amount of samples, yet all original samples.
Re: Live Drum Rack control (MIDI, Maschine or what?)
Ok thanks man. I think I had the preferences setup wrong. I'm going to mess around with it again. As far as the drum rack/samples go. I'd like to try to rebuild the samplers using my own drum sounds. I'm a little confused about the chains though and the notes they map to, that's why I was hoping for something simpler to start with. I'm going to try to dig in and understand what you're doing with the mapping and see if I'm able to successfully rebuild some samplers and get them working with your design.

Re: Live Drum Rack control (MIDI, Maschine or what?)
currently you could remap things.
For example:
Build your own drumRack using those 16 cells.
When you push one of the drumPads in drumMode on the APC40, it allows you to MIDI MAP the title bars to the
CLIP/TRACK
DEVICE ON/OFF
< and > buttons.
SO, think of each drumPad as allowing you a bank, of what those 4 buttons can be title bar mapped to.
ALSO, those 4 buttons work in this manner per Track Selection button.
Track Selection 1 is the ONLY mode where these 4 buttons are banked per pad.
Track Selection 2-8 work in a simpler fashion.
So if you push Track Selection 2, the CLIP/TRACK, DEVICE ON/OFF, < and > buttons can be mapped to ANY device title bar on that Track.
The bottom 4 device control buttons
DETAIL VIEW
REC QUANT
MIDI OVERDUB
METRONOME
Map those to ANY other special devices you have, things you ALWAYS want to go too.
For me that is
DETAIL VIEW - mapped to a title bar of my ECHO Rack on Return Track 1
REC QUANT - mapped to a title bar of my VERB Rack on Return Track 2
MIDI OVERDUB - mapped to a title bar of my AUTO FILTER Rack on Return Track 4
METRONOME - mapped to a title bar of my MASTER Rack on the MASTER TRACK.
So in essence the Bomes template allows you to use the 'Device Control Buttons' as banked per Track/per Pad, for fast and accurate selection of the bluehand.
ALSO, these buttons will work in their default description when "Shift" is held down. (not sure if thats on the latest posted template though)
The Bomes template also switches behavior of the Button Matrix.
DrumMode has Pads and velocity pads.
Vectory Mode outputs notes, and the Led Feedback works in a specific fashion.
FM8 Mode and Moog Mode turns the Matrix into a program change pallet giving you 40 program change messages.
DECK A and DECK B mode send Note on/off messages, allowing you to map those to anything, (toggle style)
MASH Mode, send note on off messages.
Each of these 'Modes" sends on a different Midi Channel 10-16
MASH MODE is a bit weird because I have effects on Return Track D.
So instead of the blue hand staying on Track 7, it actually jumps to Return Track D.
I have made some other improvements in my latest template, but I dont think I have posted my latest. I will try and do that tonight.
Basically I have allowed for mapping the Mute, Solo, and Track Stop buttons, and yet they have a shifted function too.
In my Live set I like to have the Mute Buttons work as a momentary Send A pending which track, and Solo is Momentary Send B, Clip Stop is Send E toggle.
So if I push Track 4 MUTE, I get a momentary echo on track 4. If I push Track 6 Solo, I get momentary verb on Track 6.
If I push Clip Stop 3, it toggles Send E on Track 3 which is going to a live looper device.
If I push Shift+MUTE 2, It toggles Send C on and Send D off (or vise versa) and the led feedback reflects this change.
This shifted mute function is for toggling a Track to either go to the MASH return or the CLEAN return.
I didnt build anything for the Track Control Section. I use the default behavior of the APC40, yet I have things mapped.
SO,
If I push Pan, I then MIDI MAP all of the knobs to something global such as SEND A for track 1-8.
SEND A button, knobs are mapped to Send B for Tracks 1-8
SEND B button, knobs are mapped to a ReDux FADE Macro for Tracks 1-8
SEND C button, knobs are mapped to a Filter Sweep Macro for Tracks 1-8
The Master Select button is supposed to get you into default Matrix Mode. Clip Launching.
I have been struggling making that part work right, but I will get it.
So yeah, you can remap stuff. This thing is customizable.
If you wanna change the matrix modes, go into the Bomes template and just change the outgoing messages for note on and offs.
HOWEVER, the LED feedback is specific for each mode.
If you wanna change LED stuff, that gets tricky.
You can copy paste translators from other modes, and rearrange stuff and re-write outgoing messages etc etc, but keep in mind there are things tied to the MODE SWITCH preset.
The Bomes template is fairly complex. When I get things sorted out I will try to post proper documentation for customizing etc.
Hope that helps.
