Surprised by Blind Listening Test

Would like to see/hear if a blind test could convince me to use Live's reverb more. If I do use Live's plugs (not often as I invested in UAD plugins before really getting into Live and really like most of them) that's about the only plugin I avoid. Just can't seem to get the desired result when using Live's reverb.
My biggest complaint is still the fact I can't detach anything from Live to keep focus on it (or put it on a second monitor, but I personally removed mine from my setup because Live doesn't allow detaching so it's useless).

Personally I don't like the live verbs when I'm trying to go for a realistic or high end sound - at least when working with large ones. This is, now that I think about it, what started me ignoring the live plugs. The shorter ones are certainly useable imo, for placement purposes in a denser orchestration but I wouldn't personally put them up front on say, a solo performance of a voice or acoustic instrument some kind where you can hear it in detail. I do use them for darker verbs mostly in chains in electronica stuff to save CPU etc (and sometimes it just sounds good) but find them grainy and flat in the high freq's.
I also wouldn't waste time trying to improve it when you can get Valhalla Rooms for $50. Now there is a minimal and uninspiring interface but that guy has changed the game. For me it's either his, or expensive IR's or maybe the Lexicon plugs (but for those prices I'd rather get a UAD or higher end TC hardware unit for example).

Not all audio is the same and therefor it's result when using a single reverb plugin. It's not as if UAD is holy or anything, I've got the RP-Verb as well (I love that educational discount! ) and recently bought the Waves IR-1 (incl IR-L) using some code discounts and their own special sale for about €60! Now if only that damn expensive Altiverb would ever get discounted I would buy it just to simply have it, I don't have a car and girlfriend and mostly sit behind my computer so I save a lot of money to do ridiculous stuff like that hahaha

IMO it's not a black and white situation. I personally find that I run through all the compressors and FX I have if I'm looking for a particular sound before settling at times.
There are ones I use more often than not, but there are no 'better' or worse situations where one always sounds the best. Live's plug ins aren't horrible as some would have you believe for sure, but a chorus from different manufacturers definitely imparts a different sound, and in the case of the chorus in particular I rarely use Live's.

I don't mean if you have a, "reasonable amount of tools." I mean if you have to check, "100 compressors, and 100 reverbs, to find the right sound," that might be overkill. But I can totally understand having 10, 15 even.. of reverb, or comp, or eq, any what not. And that goes back to what I was saying.. I'm not really buying synths anymore, mostly cause of the learning curve thing.. but.. If I like a reverb, or an eq.. shucks.. I am probably going to purchase it.

I bought the stillwell 1973... recently.. and this morning I tallied with a calculator, what I need to buy everything else.. minus event horizon, which i've already got..


So yeah.. I guess.. The more compressors the merrier..

Lives reverb..
I think it goes really well with synths in particular ... and its very straight forward yet rather versatile... (goes for most of Lives' devices imo)
very "digital" sounding... probably ideal for all them dubstep enthusiasts.... and minimalistic EDMers

Reaktor SpaceMaster2.. easy on the cpu and sounds out of this world..

2cAudio Aether.... I'm fanatic about this plug... very rich.. you can get pretty insane sounds out of this one..
and very very VERY versatile.. seriously... this thing sounds like a wet dream..
I'm probably gonna hold on to it forever.. best reverb (hw/sw) I've owned.. and most of the times all I ever need..
only problem is it's a CPU monster..

oh and sometimes I use the 'spring' emulation in guitar-rig.. fun stuff !

I'm a big fan... not so much for reverb, but using it as a weird twisted filter.
I like useing lives time stretching and warp markers to bend sound every which way then use those modifies sounds as IR's..
More fun than a fluffy fun thing in a bouncy castle..
